JohnAli
Hi I have just been checking the prices of flights for our departure next April and Virgin were a lot more expensive than Emirates. I have flown with Virgin to Orlando, they were good .

They say it allows them to offer cheaper fares.

Guest The Ropey HOFF
We flew with them and we thought they were just average TBH. Singapore airlines were better, we felt a little cramped in our seats, the food was only average and when we got to check in, we had 3 cases between four of us, we had a extra holdall bag in one of the cases, we planned to buy loads of clothes in Florida, but they said our cases were too heavy, even though he total was 15kg under what we could have, we had to open our cases in front if everyone and fill the holdall, which made our clothes go all over and it was a bit embarrassing, there was no bumf about it. Not impressed but they have a good name.
starlight7
They are definitely better than Qantas ( not that that's hard)

A good Airline IMO (and this is my industry) is not whether you get free p!ss, extra baggage or whatever...it is who twists the spanners (the engineers) and who is sitting up the pointy end ....everything else is just so much crap. In the old days here in OZ it was Ansett...now it is Virgin.

We flew with them, because the last time we went to the States we went with a cheaper company and we got delayed one whole day, Virgin have a good name like I said that's why we chose them. Our worry was mainly the flight up to Brisbane with meagre luggage limits but OH informed me earlier that we are allowed 23 kilo´s phew, I obviously plan on doing some shopping whilst in LA .... be mad not to, so I think I may have to be very disciplined on what i take with me :dull:

This is one of the reasons why we flew from Heathrow to OZ with Qantas because a friend in the industry recommended them to us as having one of the safest records .... I read a chilling article last week in a woman´s magazine about a Qantas pilot who had to turn back to Singapore he was piloting a 380 and noticed things that were not as they should be .... he said it took him two and a half hours to get back and land safely, he has a book out shortly which I might try to pick up and read. Candygirl
We went with Virgin in January from Gatwick to Las Vegas. They were excellent. We always pre-book our seats as we like just 2 together, OH gets fed up with sitting 3 in a row (he always get a fidget). We normally fly with BA and have to pay extra to pre-book our seats (£80 each) but with Virgin they did it over the phone and did not charge us a penny. I would definitely fly with them again. Sir Les Patterson
The great thing about Virgin here in Australia (both domestically and internationally) is that a lot of the former Ansett pilots (in particular) and other Ansett staff are now in positions of power in Virgin and their practices and mindset are now being employed. I flew for Ansett before the pilot's dispute in 1989 and I can say without fear or favour that they (Ansett) were in the top three Airlines in the world. Luckily for Virgin this expertise is now being utilised.

That would be Richard Champion de Crespigny...Captain of Qantas Flight 32...he and his crew did an amazing job of getting a crippled aeroplane back on the ground safely. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qantas_Flight_32 This is what we get paid the big bucks for

Yes it was him .... an absolute super star IMO .... he said he received a letter from a passenger thanking him for allowing her to spend Christmas with her family .... I hope he got more than one letter ....... There were some photos of it in the magazine and it did look bad, apparently it caught fire when it landed, if memory serves me right, he described turning the huge aircraft back to Singapore his heart must have been in his mouth. Because they could not deploy reverse thrust on the engines on landing the brakes "caught fire" after they pulled it up. The number one engine also would not shut down due to the damage caused by the destruction of the number two engine.... the crew were unable to shut down the No.1 engine, which had to be doused by emergency crews with water 3 hours after landing until flameout occurred. These guys were good.....I've never suffered anything quite this catastrophic but I would like to think I could do as well as they did......................good old Rolls Royce strikes again
Irishgirl1
I agree with Sir Les, we used Ansett all the time till they went out of business they were fantastic, but good to know some of there staff and pilots are now with Virgin:-) I have to say and I hope I don't get slated for this I have flown Qantas only 3 times and I have to say there service is not the best I really don't think they are great, but I know they have a great record. I have flown on a fair few airlines and I think Qantas had the worst service. Laney
