Hi everyone

I am just going through the WA SS form and they have a drop down for the occupation you are applying under and my occupation isn't there. It is however on their skilled occupation list.

It's External Auditor. Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Thanks

Kim

Hi again

I've just seen that the WASMOL on the WA website is the 2011-12 one. Does anyone know if this is their current one or needs to be updated?

I'm pulling my hair out over this as cannot believe my occupation is not on their application list but is on the WASMOL. I have emailed them to ask what the situation is.

You can use the wasmol, even though this 2011-2012..WA is lazy, they didn't update the list. But if you take a look at the news, you can find that WA removed some occupation in last month.

External Auditor is very much on the WASOL list. 2011-12 is the current one, they just haven't updated the year. But am not sure why it's not appearing in the drop down list. Give them a call, they are very friendly people out there.

Did you anytime consider getting the skills assessment for 'Accountant'? Ceiling for Auditor looks minuscule when compared to Accountant and probably WA also has a small number for Auditors.

Thanks both for posting

I have just called WA migration dept and they have informed me that External Auditor is no longer on the list!!!!! Apparently some occupations have just come off it in last couple of days and they update the list monthly.

Cannot believe it. Not sure what to do now.

If I get my work experience assessed I'll have 70 points for a 189 and I worry that wont be enough to get invited.

I could get my skills assessed as accountant but do you think that would mean I would not be allowed to get a job in audit when I got there? My worry is that not only will I be moving from the UK to AUS I will also be moving from public to private sector. So to go from audit to accounts as well might be a stretch too far. What do you think Walkwater?

Any thoughts?

70 points might be just enough, but you never know how many people with 70 points are in the queue before you.

You can work in any occupation you want once you get the PR (auditor/accountant/even an actor).

I got my skills assessment changed from Auditor to Accountant. But had to sit for foundation level paper on "Accountant Theory".

I hope you need not sit for any additional paper should you decide to go for change in the occupation. All the best!!!

I better polish my acting skills then. Ha

I've got an ACA so the skill assessment shouldn't be a problem. I'm going to email them to ask if they can just use my old paperwork. Cheeky I know.

So did you have an assessment done as an auditor and accountant?

Also my worry is that if WA have taken it off their list then there can't be much demand for auditors. Would I be silly trying to get a job out there on that basis? There are loads of auditor jobs on seek.com.

Ha ha, ya why not - I bet it is more interesting than working as an auditor/accountant.

I initially had got my skills assessed as an auditor but then I never worked as an auditor after qualifying. So I changed the occupation to accountant, so that if I want to claim points for experience in future, it would be possible (presently I have 22 months of experience as an accounatant ).

I am also a ACA (from India) but had to sit for the foundation level paper of CPA. I tried to reason with them, but they woudn't listen. The paper was so elementary, I could complete the paper in less than half the examination time.

For auditor, the best bet would be Big 4s and you can apply from overseas. While providing a local Australian address on the CV does increases the chances of getting a call from the employer tremendously, it should be possible that you will get a call if you mention that you already have a PR and are ready to fly down for personal interview should they decide to shortlist you for interview.

I have a friend working in a Big 4 in Perth and he told the vacancies for auditors are not bad.

It certainly would be more interesting but hey such was our career choice.

How strange that you had to take an extra exam. I didn't realise there was an Indian ACA. Was your Institute one of the recognised bodies by the CPA? Mine (the ICAEW) was by the ICAA. How come you choice CPA anyway?

I definitely would like to work for one of the Big 4.Annoyingly I have a link to a partner in PwC in Melbourne but I can't get SS from Victoria due to lack of experience. I'd also rather live in Perth anyway.

So in your experience as an accountant do you see many auditors joining finance teams without actual accounts prep experience (apart from the actual experience you get when conducting audits)?

Yes, the accounting body in India is called ICAI. ICAI has reciprocation MoUs with ICAA, CPA and also ICAEW. I chose to go with CPA as it was easy to get CPA designation under the MoU and the assessment was free of charge. However my bad, that they made me write an extra paper for skills assessment which costed me time and money.

Oh why wouldn't you talk to the Melbourne Partner for a connect to his counterpart in Perth.

I work in the Transaction services department and involved in financial due diligence exercises. I can say that people more than 3 years experience as an auditor might find it difficult to move to a different profile.
