I'm doing the hubby's tax return (e-tax) to claim back our tax as we returned to the UK last March. I have it all done but am stuck on the superannuation bit. I'm just at the printing/lodgement stage and keep getting a thing that says "verify the claim for super deductions as the taxpayer has income attributable to eligible employment" Can I claim for it or not???

When I go to sort it out (D12) I just get the same box that I filled out before. It asks if I have sent a form to my Super fund and to notify them of how much I am claiming....

I've been strugling with the e-tax for ages now and feel like giving up so any help would be greatly appreciated!

.....just editing to say I have already put a claim to get the super back. So I'm thinking now maybe it can't be claimed on teh tax return...???? HELP!!!!

Hi, I can't help too much as we were PR when we moved back and can't claim the Super back until we retire.

Have you had a boo on the ATO website by chance.

Hopefully someone will come along soon who can assist you.

Good luck.

Cheers

Karen

Thanks for the reply Karen, yes I've been melting my head going through the ATO site, I'm none the wiser!! The guy doing our super refund says "you may not need to complete this section of the form as you have never made any personal deducted contributions into your super account"

I'm lost!!!

The D12 question relates to personal super payments. These are super payments that you have made yourself. Normally only self-employed people would do this - or people who want to boost their super balance for some reason and make extra payments. This question is nothing to do with the compulsory super that your employer has paid on your behalf.

If you are trying to enter details relating to employer-paid super payments, then I'm not surprised the system doesn't like it. There are no tax-deductions relating to the compulsory Employer-paid super that can be claimed via a tax return.
