SaffanZimbo
We are looking at validating our visa's (fingers crossed we get the magic approval in the coming weeks!) by flying to Perth for 2-3 weeks in either March or July/August 2013 (which ever is the cheapest). Flight prices are around £3700-3900 for a family of 4 which is OK... BUT we would like to visit my mum in NZ whilst we are down under as we havn't seen her in 3 years... I've looked at multi stop flights LHR/PER/WLG/LHR or similar and the prices are ridiculous around £9000!:arghh: Cheapest flights Perth to Wellington return I've found are around $2350/£1570 for the 4 of us - is this the best option - to buy 2 sets of tickets? Time will be very limited so would prefer to fly into Perth, offload 4 suitcases and travel onto Wellington the same day for 1 week and then back to Perth to give us a 2 week reccie in Perth.... does this sound realistic? Have you tried trailfinders, we did a huge tour of Aus almost 2 yrs ago, singapore, perth, adelaide, melboure, NZ, sydney and Hong Kong, with accomdation as well which we stayed in houses it cost no more that 10,000. I think the all our flights were just over 5. I found this company fab. we are hoping to book for June as they say this is the cheapest time. good luck
shirleyt
Have you considered a cruise. We went to Perth for our validation trip then cruised bottom half of Oz and New ZEaland and finished in Sydney. It was cheaper than flying to all those places and when all your meals are included it doesn't work out too expensive. We went this year feb/ march and cruised on radience of the seas. It's a good time of the year as most cruises are in Oz doing their round the world at that time.
Bob1
Don;t think there are ay direct flight to Wellington - you'd have to go via Sydney or Mel. - journey would be another 10-12 hours - you'd be knackered doing it in one go. Depending on cost how about week in Perth - fly to NZ then back to Perth for another week? Your Mum won't see the Grandkids otherwise as you would have strangled them on the plane! Had to laugh at your post as OH suggested he flies on a different flight to myself and the 2 kids as he may have an urge to open the door and toss them out if they misbehave.... We are looking at trying to keep costs to a minimum so were looking at car hire for 2 weeks in1 go in Perth but as you say we may have to be more realistic and think of our sanity ahead of costs for some parts of the trip! We had thought the stressy bit was TRA but have realised the whole process through to actually getting there for good is stressful!!!
Bob1
cheapest option is to fly your Mum up to Perth - then she can babysit while you go off checking Perth out!
SaffanZimbo
cheapest option is to fly your Mum up to Perth - then she can babysit while you go off checking Perth out! Yes, definitely the cheapest option. We however own the house my mum lives in in Masterton so need to view it and get maintenance arranged. Since my dad passed away in late 2006 mum has struggled to cope and we think it needs a good once over. If the flights costs x 4 :arghh:are exhorbitant we may have to find a good DIY person on the ground who can do an assessment and carry out the work and then fly mum to Perth..... aargh decisions, decisions..... bell123321
Just having a look online I just used skyscanner.net to look out prices for returns from Perth to Wellington in March just choose random dates. You can get returns with Qantas flying via Melbourne for £2015 for the four of you. Seems cheaper to book them seperate with your UK to Perth flights. Not sure about July/August flights as these do not seem available yet to book. Otherwise would it be cheaper to get a round the world ticket from a travel agents who specialise in these? noworriesmate
Maybe another option to consider is to fly with emirates to new Zealand - they allow a free stop over in Sydney or Melbourne in either direction and then simply buy a return flight to Sydney or Melbourne to Perth. I reckon this may be a lot cheaper than your suggestions so far. NWM
