Have been living in NZ now for 10 years and have decided to move across the pond.

Husband has started working in PNG and so he can FIFO of Brisbane. So Im looking at moving from Auckland to either Sunshine or Gold Coast....have not really decided yet as I don't know enough about these areas to decide.

I have two boys aged 13 and 11 and they love skating and surfing etc. Im totally bored out of my tree here in NZ and want to move somewhere that has a good social scene that I can get involved with esp with me being on my own for six weeks at a time with hubby being away.

I like to look of Robina and also Kawana Waters. The kids want to move to GC as they have been doing their own research and found out that GC has loads of stuff that they like to do. But someone told me that the GC was not as nice to live in as Sunshine coast. Also heard that Sunshine coast has a big recession so not any work about. Im a Beauty Therapist and think I would like to work part time over there.

So I suppose I am looking for someone's opinion of what might be areas to look at and areas to stay away from. BTW looked at all the suburb guides etc but want honest feedback from people living there

Thanks.

Hi,

It depends on what you and your family like. Gold coast is more 'trendy' whereas Sunshine Coast is more relaxed. I don't think you'll have trouble with work as a beauty therapist in either places as people on the either coast are often a lot more focussed on that kind of stuff.

Robina is a nice and very new area. But there's a lot of students in that area because of Bond Uni so not sure if that would be ideal for a family.

Living close to the water is quite expensive though, and the Gold coast even more so than Sunshine coast so it kind depends on what you have to spend as to where you can live.

Good luck!

They would have a massive choice of surf beaches and skate parks, not to mention all the walk ways and parks along the front which are ideal for scooters/pushbikes and skateboards, so i can understand why they are siding to the GC.

Kawana Water and Robina are nice area with good shops and good schools. The centre of the GC around Surfers isnt that great for living as its very touristy but again only a stones throw away for a day visit or to spend the weekend. Currumbin, Kirra and Burleigh are nice places too.

For kids (and big kids) the Gold Coast is much better with a wider variety of activites on offer than the Sunny Coast which is beautiful but quieter with less 'attractions',,

Hi. Can't help you re areas as I don't know much about those places (though had heard Robina was a bit rough) but just to say hi as we also moved from NZ before xmas. My motives were different to yours I think - I loved NZ and we left because of the earthquakes. Considered Auckland but decided to make the jump to Oz. Where in Auckland are you? Anyway, good luck with it all! Kate
