deadline to move to Oz looming...

Ok, in a nutshell, we must move/visit Oz before Dec 20th this year to activate our visa, however, I have just had a really good thing come up at work and it does not finish until April 2013. The misses really doesn't want to go over for xmas and then come back again, only to go a few months later, plus taking two little kids back and forth might be a bit much for them.

What can I do, I don't to leave her and the kids in Oz while this project is underway at work.

Can anyone shed any light or help?

What can we do? DIAC wont move the entry date, I'm pretty sure of that.

Please help

we had a similar scenario come up in that we'd always said we'd go over before Xmas. Recently hubby had a good opportunity at work come up which would last til April/May. Speaking as a wife with 2 young children, its just not something I even considered an option! we've been through enough stress to get this far and have the stress of the upheaval of moving abroad still ahead of us. I do not want to think that after all that, I'd then be left alone with the kids for a few months in a new country just after we arrived. So I'm sure you've guessed, he turned the opportunity down. In my personal opinion, its time to let go of the opportunities here and look to the new ones over there. Good luck deciding on what you're going to do, its not easy xx

Hi, I think you already know what the answers are to your question. Wouldn't a validation trip with extended stopovers in Singapore 2-5 days for example at least make it less of an ordeal? Other than that you have no other options than what you've mentioned.

Is the opportunity at work going to help you in anyway once you do move to Australia or is it just something you really like the idea of being involved in? If it really is going to help with prospects in Australia then you are going to have to do a validation trip. You don't have to wait until December, you could do it tomorrow, or October half term if the kids are at school. If the project is not going to make any difference to your prospects in Australia then forget it and move. What's to say there won't be another great thing after this one? And then another? And why can't you just leave part way through this really good thing at work? Lots of people leave jobs at sll times. Providing you give the appropriate notice you can leave when you want.

Good luck anyway with whatever you decide to do.
