Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me if there is any difference for non- native English speakers in the IELTS test?

Are there any non- native English speakers here, who can tell me about their experience/ scores with the IELTS?

Thanks for your help!

The difference is that is quite hard for us to score four 8s, especially if you have always lived in a non English speaking country like me!

Practice practice practice!

This is the key, I just missed for a 0.5 that result!

My OH is non-native english speaker and got - 9,8.5,8,7.5 - overall 8.5

That's a pretty good score as well for a non-native speaker :-) But it does confirm what @dredg97 says "its hard to get four 8s" and get 20 point from your English skills. It's unfortunately not enough to have an average above 8, but you need 8 in all four sub tests.

My experience with IELTS are: 50% is about English skills, 25% is about knowing the test format and 25% is luck.

@beach blonde - no. The test is the same.

Non-native speaker here but lived in Britain for about 6 years and I have studied English in public school since the age of 10. I thought IELTS was easy - I scored 8.5 and 9 in everything except listening where I got an 8.0. I found the most important thing was to know the format of the test beforehand. Use Google and you'll find plenty of free pages telling you what to expect and what format IELTS expects you to answer in. It's pretty much like any uni course you take - make sure you've done some practise exams, prepare for the format of the exam and don't panic. You'll do fine! Good Luck!
