richard300
Hi Everyone, This post marks the very first enquiry and realinvestigation into moving to Australia. I am hoping, that from it, some of you guys and girls willbe able to point me to relevent threads and topics i may not have considered.Give some kind of guidance to the best way to structure my plans etc.... Firstly I have to say that I have never even visitedAustralia, i do keep in contact with an old school friend who emigrated alongwith the rest of his family when we were still at school. But my thoughts anddesire to emigrate currently are based on perceived ideas. As my investigation gets further, to the point where i havestrong opinions on what area is likely to be the best to live in for myself andmy families requirements, then i will plan a family trip to Australia to thatarea. What do I (my family) want from Australia? Well, the main thing i would like is my children to grow upin a more relaxed and outdoor environment, i want them to be well schooled andnot have to spend half their lives stuck indoors because it's raining. I would also like a slightly less cut throat lifestyle formy wife and children, and for us to lead a more outdoors lifestyle. What would we want from a location? Well, we live a 2 minute walk away from the coast in the UK,and would like that not to change. We don’t want to be in the middle ofnowhere, and dont want to live in a city, but a nice medium sized town fairlyclose to a larger city, and very near the coast would be perfect. However, we are not wealthy so property prices or rentalprices would need to be a factor. Employment: Both my wife and myself would need to work. My wife is asenior registered nurse specialising in the treatment of Diabetes. I amSupport Services Manager for a large Hospital and re-habitation centre forex-servicemen and women, but my role (the effective management of housekeeping, security, catering and dining, transport, purchasing, health and safety, event planning etc) could be equaly relevent to a number of other industries. I have recently passed my NEBOSH qualification which ibelieve is also the relevant qualification in Australia for Health and Safetyand Risk Management? What do we want from Australia? Just to me a normal working family, in a nice home with acouple of nice cars. With a nice circle of friends, spending as much spare timeas we can enjoying being outdoors. Watching our two very young children grow upreally knowing anything different that the Australian way of life. So....... Any information, advice, hard truths, plan of action, etc, that any of you would like to pass my way, would be really appreciated.

JohnAli
Jut do it, I would recommend using a Migration Agent but I know loads of people do it themsleves. Decide who the main applicant is , book your IELTS test if you need to. We have never been there and we are movong to perth next April had our visa granted last week, it was expensive, frustrating and stressful but well worth it - I hope - lots of positive news coming out of Oz, with your skill set I am sure you will be laughing - good luck x
VERYSTORMY
Some practical things. You should be able to find somewhere close to a beach and in budget as you are happy not to be in the city. Your jobs are in high demand so all will be good on that front. You might want to look at WA as your job is easily transferable into the mining industry. Now, for something you need to think about. The outdoors lifestyle. From my experience people who are not very big outdoors people won't suddenly become so because they move to Oz. In fact there was a report a few months ago saying kids in WA spend less than 2 hours a week outdoors. I grew up in a particularly cold and wet part of the UK and was outdoors all the time while I am sure there are people that grew up here that were never out. Is it a good move for you? Only way to find out is to try it.
Benoli
from what you've written, have a look at Adelaide.....the Repatriation General Hospital might be a good place to start: http://www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/wps/wcm/connect/public+content/sa+health+internet/health+services/hospitals+and+health+services/metropolitan/repatriation+general+hospital/repat+redevelopment also, the house prices are generally lower than other states, it has a drier climate than some of the east coast areas and seems to be a nice family orientated place to bring up kids......ok I may be a little biased as that's where we're heading but we want similar things to what you've described and its the place that ticked most of our boxes, good luck in your quest, I hope you find the right place for you and your family x

Talieandtribe
Hi welcome to PIO. There will be answers here to just about any question. I would say Adelaide too. It was my first choice but not the rest of the families. We did it ourselves, not really sure what a migration agent would have done as you have to fill everything out yourself, and sit your own IELTS.. Good luck
