Guys, does anyone else have hearing impairment/loss? My baby has a mild hearing impairment, we are so afraid of the negative outcome. :(

As far as I know, hearing test is just simple. At first, the doctor will check your outer ear. Then, he will conduct a series of tests such as the tuning fork, speaking softly, speaking aloud, and etc., if you car hear properly.

How old is your little one? Our little girl was 12 months when we had our medicals and they didn't test her hearing at all. As far as I know mild conditions are fine, I think they are more concerned with issues that will potentially cost the country a fortune in medical bills should you end up living here. Hope it all works out and that someone can provide you with a more definitive answer.

DBC, my girl will turn 4 in september, so i guess she is not a baby anymore :) I am just used to calling her baby. Without her hearing aids I doubt she will pass the test. She will not hear whispering, but she'll definetely answer all questions asked in normal voice on the distance of 2-3 meters. I think we won't hide anything from doctors, we'll say everything as it is. But I just can't stop thinking of the outcome.

As for burden on the government ... currently it is zero. We have bought hearing aids that need to be tuned once a year and she visits special lessons that we pay for ourselves. We did not apply for any kind of government support as in our country it is ridiculously low, something around 100 USD a month and is not worth trying to get. A kid should undergo lists of severe checks annually for that. The only problem is that it is not predictable if her hearing will remain the same over time. Sometimes the hearing impairment develops into hearing loss and in that case a cohlear implant may be needed, which is costly. Keeping this in mind we keep a deposit in bank for that. It may cost around USD 60,000. Thanks god, from the time she was diagnosed till present the situation didn't get worse.

I've read about health waivers on immi.gov.au site. We are prepared to write a statement that we will support our daugher completely in everyting she needs without asking for any help from the government. I just wonder ...has anyone went through the same path or heard anything similar?

Thank you all for your support!

Before we started the process we asked one migration agent if that can be a problem and he said "No". So who knows? I am just nervous a bit about the whole thing. Our medicals are scheduled on 13 of August. Will keep you all updated.
