Guest Jassop
Hi All I'm new to the forum and would love anyones advice or guidance. My formal job offer came through today for a fantastic post in Melbourne. I was very lucky in that after I sent my cv they flew me out there to meet them all 2 weeks ago so I've had a chance to see the place and what it's all like. So, they are now starting the 457 visa sponsorship process and sending contracts this week - all very exciting but seems to be happening very quickly - feeling over the moon as moving to Oz is a dream come true, but also strangely overwhelmed, bit nervous and quite emotional.......can anyone offer any advice on the big move and/or Melbourne? I am moving over with my husband and 2 boys aged 6 and 3 thanks!
Petals
Is the company going to provide you with short term accommodation when you arrive? If not then you will need to arrange whilst looking for somewhere to live. Where you live will depend on where you will be working and how long a commute you want to have. As a rule anything within 10 km of the city centre is more expensive than further out areas. However further out is f u r t h e r out. New housing tends to be on the fringes of Melbourne and as it is in area the same size as the area of Greater London its a big place. There are many threads about different areas in the Victoria forum so have a browse. There is another forum linked to this one and the link is at the foot of the page for people who live and want to live in Victoria, Life in Victoria. Pop along there and you may be able to make contact with fellow Brits before you arrive. Good luck
