Ok so we are back and forth all the time with the should we shouldn't we question of moving to WA. I suppose what's making us so hopeless at making a decision is the anxiety of where to start and what the best form of visa would be. I am 32 and currently work as a youth offending officer for the youth justice board and also have my initial teacher trading completed which gave me a PGCE WITH qualified teaching and learning status for secondary upwards. My husband is 36 and a self employed electrician with various qualifications. We have 2 children who are 2 and 8 weeks so as you could probably guess have little time to do all the rewearch and wondered if some of you more experienced and organised folks could point us in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

If you don't have time to do the research, then I really think that you need to use a migration agent. The forum can guide you but without an agent you would still need to do a lot of research and work yourself.

So with that said, the first thing you need to decide is who is the better main applicant. To do this you should look at the SOL and CSOL on www.immi.gov.au and check to see which occupations are on the lists and which lists too. If the occupation is only on the CSOL then a state or employer sponsor would be required. To help you decide who is the better main applicant, you should both take a points test and lok into skills assessment requirements for your occupations and see if you can pass it.

I would leave it there, once you have identified who is the better main applicant, perhaps come back for more advice.

It depends if you have enough points for an Independent visa or you are going for state sponsorship, in the current system the pass mark is 60 points however those with the highest points will get offered a visa first so I would think it would be best to get as many points as possible. Starting point, are both professions on the SOL list? It's quite costly for electricians but they do earn the money in Oz ( my bestfriends hubby has just been through the process for an electrician). We started off by sitting IELTS as we passed with superior English this helped us no end as we were able to claim 20 points- this was important as we are 42 and needed the points, next came the skills assessment for my other half as he had more years in his profession than I did in mine so again we were able to claim the highest points. We used an agent and althought they cost 1500 GBP we think they were worth every penny as for us it destroyed all anxiety about where to start and if we were doing things right. Hope this helps Ali
