Fishing WA what to take and what to leave.

Beach fishing I've done involves a big beach rod (12 foot plus) with a strong line. You need to get it out past the breakers in many places, so the bigger the better. Usually use mullies.

River fishing I usually go for tailor with a mid sized river rod (6 - 9 foot) small gang using white bait. Or you can use a single hook and use squid for flathead or flounder.

I'm not that technical - I just like to catch the fish with minimum expense. Crab nets are good too on the river.

I've never done fly - but I have heard there are trout down south west.

Jon brought all his gear over with him - but be warned he spent a LOT of time with the jeyes fluid :) And it definitely got inspected by customs - and got through.

Have checked with him who thinks fishing is fun - Jon says that fishing here is generally much more lure based (spinning etc), particularly inland. The sea fishing he says is more similar to UK style than the inland stuff is. (Hope that makes sense!)

Oh and he says that river fishing here isn't coarse fishing - it's more river based game fishing. (I have no idea what that means, so I hope it makes sense !)

He does say to definitely bring it - you'll never know what's useful :)

Cheers for that Bobj, not having done much (any) sea fishing before though and that being my intended hunting ground I think I may leave the old course fishing tacke box at home and start a fresh when I arrive, nice site though maybe just maybe I might find a fishing buddy so I can leave out lass sunbathing or whatever women do. lol

Mate, been over 40 years since I last fished the Perth area, but there are lotsa good places along the Swan River for bream, flathead etc.

Cheers, Bobj.
