Booking flights

We are about to book our flights to Perth for the 27th of December, the dilema is do we go premium economy or plain old economy. Usually I find airplanes very uncomfortable thats why we were thinking of the upgrade but we would still be in economy from Singapore so is it worth while paying nearly double for premium?

I would say no, every time I flew over and back to Perth ( which was a fair few) i flew in economy with Singapore airlines, I did however find out my flight number and went to seatguru.com and checked out which seats were good and bad, and if the emergency exit seats were free then i paid the extra to get them, Singapore airlines do this not sure which other airlines do it. Even the 1 leg of the journey i couldn't get the emergency seats, the normal seating was just fine, once i have a window seat i'm happy. Also I am 6'3 with long legs hahaha. Spend the extra money on a stop over in a 5* hotel.

What he said......

Im 6' 4" and economy on Singapore Airlines is fine, book a night in the Pan Pacific in Singapore with the savings to break the journey up, but PE isnt worth paying double for

After doing PE a couple of times, I found myself not being able to face economy again. It was well worth it IMO on a full plane, however if the plane is not full and the seat beside you is free then in PE you can't use that seat as the PE seats (in some planes) have solid sides so you can't lift the arm up, whereas in economy you can lift the arm up and spread out over two seats.

Where do some of these firms pull their prices from a bloody top hat, Malaysia airlines are asking for £3000+ for a 1 way flight from the Uk to Perth.

Did you get any special offers from opening bank accounts etc?? If not might be worth openning an account (if you haven't already) I went with ANZ

I got an offer to fly emirates which reduces the cost and ups the baggage allowance. Roughly £700 for economy 1 way to brisbane..

No not tried that option, I was waiting until closer to the time to open a bank account but we were worried about flights selling out over xmas, we have to validate the visa before the 5th Jan 2013. so I will look into what bank accounts can offer. Who did you open your account with if I may ask.

Got the flights booked now, Singapore airlines, 40kg baggage each, 2 nights in a Singapore hotel (just because we can) and then onto Perth, all for £1600, best price I had in 5 days of phoning and internet searching. I used Net Flights in the end and the bloke who dealt with us was ace, Alan was his name would recommend them to anyone else.

SteveF8. Looks like they had your pants down mate! the best price I got was £750 for a return only marginally more than a 1 way. I was going to book returns but I thought that would have been a bit of a negative vibe.

I only booked it in late March, I usually book it as soon as the dates are released but there was a few issues this time so I had to leave it late

Could have got cheaper on other airlines but Im going at the best time of day and I land in the afternoon, not getting into Perth at 1am

Seams a bit steep to me but I have only been looking for flights to Perth, which I would have though to be more than flights to Brissi. Are they charging you for the baby?

Brissy is an extra 5 and a half hours in flight time which i would assume adds to the cost. (not sure what the mile to the gallon is.,., but it aint free )

Thanks folks.. Nipper has a slight charge! (he best get saving.,., in fact.,., he has more in his piggy bank than me..?)

So all in all., £1400 seems a good price for the three on Singa Airlines?

I think that's a fantastic price - we have just had to pay £2250 for two return flights Man to Sydney in mid September. I know we would have got a better price if we had booked earlier but we couldnt book because my mother (91) was ill. It just shows how important it is to get booked up quickly. We searched high and low first, trail finders, everyone, and even brought forward our departures a bit.

IMO premium economy is far to expensive to contemplate but I agree about paying extra for better seats in economy. Singa air let you reserve your seats for free (others charge!) but also have a few 'preferred' seats which cost £30 a leg per person. We took them for the extra leg room for the two long legs i.e. Man - Singa and chose the best ordinary seats we could for Singa- Syd.

Moral of the story is .... book early and worry about elderly mother later :-)

PS I once had same prob with elderly father (now deceased) and couldnt find a decent flight price - so I booked two entirely separate tickets, with different airlines, one return Lon to Bangk and one return Bangk - Syd I had to write the details and have it in front of me as I was booking and left a three day stopover each end to be on the safe side, but saved a few hundred pounds on the then advertised price for single tickets.

Happy travelling!

We paid about the same .,. or maybe more than that for our reccie.,., and they brook the flight up [Emirate - naughty naughty].,., 2 to 3 flights in total creating an extra 2 - 3 hours on the trip.,., not the best when doing it in one hit with a 11 month old... 27 hrs not incl transfters.,., but we live and learn. I searched for ages also but it is what it is.

As you are going in January(oz summer) and leaving from Manchester that seems like a good deal for the three of you.
