Guest m0k0
Hi all, I'm an Australian Permanent Resident (for nearly 6 years) via marriage to an Aussie. Been here for about 11 years now. Still not a citizen (keep meaning to do it). Anyway we have 2 children. Should we be thinking about getting them UK passports as soon as possible, just so that they cannot be taken away? Does it make any difference what age they get them or if they get an aussie passport first? Just want to make sure we keep their options open for when they are older. Also my wife was born in Canada (she had aussie parents), just throwing it in the mix but can we do that one as well as she is a citizen? If we fancied it? Many thanks, Gareth

Guest
I'd read the Canadian immigration website to find out if you can apply for that. As for UK passports, I'd say its worthwhile getting them and citizenship by descent for kids. Especially if you are visiting the UK or Europe as they get older. Our son has held dual nationality since he was 6 or 7 weeks old and had his Aus passport for months before we got his UK one (in UK). And also yes, you really should get your citizenship sorted. Don't keep putting it off if you do actually want it.
