Anyone else feel on the verge of a break down on the final run up to leaving??

Ok so we have only 6 days left in the uk until we fly to Brisbane!

I had pictured this week since we first started this journey 18 months ago.....we would have both finished work, chilling out catching up with family and friends and being mega excited!

However, I am the complete opposite, stressed beyond belief!! Gary is still working, wanted to work right up until the end for maximum cash. I still have a list as long as my arm to complete and even though I've tried so hard to be organised and can't actually think of a day in the last few months that I haven't done something related to this 'big move' I still feel like there is so much to do in the last few days!!

Everyone wants to see us 'one last time' which is lovely but I just don't have enough hours in the day, especially with a 6 year old and very hectic 19 month old!!

I feel exhausted and drained by all the emotional goodbyes to close family and friends and I've still got the worst ones to do, my parents and maternal grandparents! :(

I am not doubting what we are doing at all but think that by the time we get to Brisbane ( don't even want to think about that flight with the pre mentioned 19month old lol) I'm gonna be on the verge of collapse!!

Its only the thought of our two weeks of chilling on the sunshine coast before I start my full time nursing job (something else I'm very stressed and anxious about) that's keeping me going at the mo!

Just so so tired and exhausted.....please tell me this is normal?! Lol!

I didn't go through this, but only because my OH took two and a half weeks off work to get ready for the shippers comming to pack up and I finished work nearly a month before I flew out to Aus. Oh, and my kids are 7 and 11 so at school most of the day and able to help out or entertain themselves the rest of the time. There is no way I could have done the move with a 19 month old. There is no wonder you are feeling stressed. You have both my admiration and sympathy.

Good luck with the move.

Totally understand I am feeling exactly the same! We are leaving on the 12th, eeek! Thought I would feel excited but more anxious actually. Shipping company is coming on Thursday and I am SUCH a disorganised person... trying to sort though everything meanwhile the estate agents are showing potential renters around, not giving the best impression! We won't be in Aus for a couple of months though, backpacking in Thailand, Cambodia etc, but already worried about finding work and all that, when I should just be enjoying this chance to see the world a bit.

Good luck with it all, I bet we'll all look back on it and wonder why we were so stressed!

All normal. Been there done that. Horrible at the time but once on the plane...you'll just feel excitement. You'll be fine. Make the most of the time you have left, enlist peoples help, kill 2 birds with one stone, ie help me with the tip runs and then we'll have coffee etc...Make the time to see those who matter....it might be years before you see them again. You'll be right....(you really will...) now breathe, relax and wine....

Emma, firstly have a huge hug  We have all been there infact I refused to sign the house over to the new buyer, I just sat in our top field and cried. When we got here our emotions were still all over and jet lag didn't help, but we love it and have never been back to the UK since arriving.

I know- I should get more excited! On one hand we are impatient to get to Aus and get on with work and life but want to take the now or never opportunity to travel... plus OH's partner visa still hasn't come through :( and it's going to be cheaper in Asia whilst renters take on our place in London. That's our excuse anyway!

Thanks all!

im glad I'm not the only one! Lol! To make matters worse we took a massive risk and went ahead with our move before we had sold our house! We should have exchanged today but it has been delayed until tomorrow now! :/ really stressing that we are going to have to delay our flights if it gets delayed much more! Is exchanging on our house 5 days before flying slightly crazy!? Infact don't answer that! Lol!

Hey ho, we like to live life on the edge! I just really really hope it is all worth it in the end, still hasn't really sunk in yet I don't think!!

Fingers crossed it all works out for all of us!

You have worked one place and your an expert on all of Australia, give it up mate, your embarrassing yourself every time you post.

No. My OH was already in Australia when we exchanged and I flew out less than a week after we exchanged (exchanged and completed on the same day). I would have still gone even if there had been a delay, and just left the keys with my folks or the estate agents.

It's all normal

We also exchanged a couple of days before we flew. I was stressed to the max hoping nothing fell through but actually exchanging then was quite nice, it was a good feeling having cash land in your account a few days after you get to a new country

Good luck!

Is that intended to be helpful or just point scoring against Oz?

To the OP. You have enough to worry about without contending with the above inane comment. It may well be the experience of the poster, but I can assure you that it doesn't apply to Oz generally. My wife has never looked back since she took a nursing post in Brizzy. More professional development, more autonomy, less of that "class" thing that existed between doctor's and nurses back in the UK.............my wife finds that doctors treat nurses as equals here, and the nursing standard in most cases is on a par, if not better than the UK.................it's simply different in some cases which is not to say that difference is sub-standard. She loves it, as do all of her pommy friends who work in a wide range of hospitals around brizzy.

Edited to add: Some of the poorer nursing standards emanates from some nurses trained elsewhere that the Uk and Oz. My wife does not view this/them in a derogatory manner but rather sees it as symptomatic of the training in other countries and not the fault of the nurse. As an educator, she sees it as a challenge to raise the standards of such nurses and finds that once those nurses are "corrected", the majority become excellent ambassadors for their vocation.

good luck
