ItchyFeet76
My husband is seeking employment and sponsorship (457 route). He applied for 1 job, received an email within minutes requesting his CV (which he returned within minutes) but has heard nothing for a week now. He has applied for a 2nd job and heard back (again, within minutes) from an agency asking if they could call him (yesterday lunchtime or this morning GMT) to discuss his situation as they know companies who are willing to sponsor for his specialism. They haven't yet called... I've heard 'rumours' that Australians are sometimes a little tardy in their responses (possibly due to the laid-back culture?) and that this shouldn't be taken personally (i.e. they may still be interested, they just take ages to make decisions and get back to you). Is this true? Thanks

surflen22
Absolutely! And if he's applying in WA, its twice as bad! Perhaps follow up with the first company politely just to remind them that he's waiting?
Delaneym
I didnt think I was shortlisted for an interview as it took so long.. then I didnt hear anything and thought thats it .. but then got an email basically with the sponsor nomination number! now my 457 is complete ( and they have been asking how are things going all the way through) and I am on the brink to book flight etc.. I am waiting for the formal offer so we can agree a start date! Its very chilled as far as my journey has been. Good luck!
Alaska
Months and months! DH first saw an ad and sent in CV. Didn't hear anything for about 6 months. Then an interview. Then nothing for a few more months! Then it suddenly moved very quickly and we were out here about 2 months after the offer.
sussex boy
I started the process over three years ago, and am now in the Nt, I applied for over 200 jobs before I got a real flood of offers.
Elsie
Took months of not hearing anything. Even after interview, it took them a few weeks to confirm I had the job. It's an exercise in extreme patience.
ItchyFeet76
Thank you for all your replies - we feel somewhat reassured and will just have to be a bit more patient, I guess. Yes, my husband did mention our requirements for sponsorship in his cover letter, and they still asked for a CV. The agency called back a while ago (about 20 mins after posting my thread - I knew I'd jinx it!) and are confident in my husband's chances to find sponsorship / employment, as it seems his skills are rather in demand out there (particularly in Melbourne) - although we don't want to get our hopes up just yet... He's due to take an exam in a couple of weeks which, if he passes, will further increase his chances. Thanks guys :-)
