KazzE
We want to find some snow! Not for sking or anything too physical, just to look at and maybe take a stroll After living in Victoria for 4 years we have yet to experience the snow, we have a few days off and thought we would take a road trip and find some snow. We also want to see a bit more of th country. Suggestions please of where to go and where to stay I have been looking at the grampions but cannot find anything about snow there? Any help or suggestions very much appreciated Karen
Petals
Mount Donna Buang is the nearest http://www.travelvictoria.com.au/warburton/ will give you some information. Most people take their kids up there in winter. For skiers then its Mount Buller, Mount Hotham, Falls Creek and Mount Stirling.
KazzE
Thanks Petals Think this week end (fri to Mon) we are going to the Grampians and then down to the great ocean road to try and spot some whales. We can do mount Donna Buang as a day trip, I think?

KazzE
We had a great trip to the Grampians, beautiful place. And a great Indian reastaurant! A bit far to go again ;0) Sat- We drove from there to Mt Gambier as hubby wanted to cross a border, stopped for a cuppa made on the portable stove and then headed for Portland, getting there in time for bed. Sunday- set off home, intending to drive along the Great Ocean road, spotting whales as we went. The weather was horrible, no whales :0(( no stopping, too windy! We ended up driving through the Beech forest on C155, beautiful forest, very tall trees, very peaceful until half a tree landed on the windscreen and the car stopped dead ! ! Smashed windscreen, lucky it held and nobody hurt. No phone signal 6km to nearest junction ( according to sat nav ) further in other direction ( we later found out 10 km) DS and I started walking, it started raining, hard DD stayed with hubby and car DS and I were picked up about an hour later and dropped at Beech Forest pub (10 km in other direction as measured by Russ's car) Ted from pub dove us back to car to see if he could get it started - no Drove DD and me back to pub to call tow truck. Tow truck arrived about 45 mins later, went and got car plus hubby and DS Ted offer to drive us to Colac ( where the car was going on tow truck and there was only room for two in the truck)admitting that he was a little over, which we kinda guessed as he was drinking when we first met him and still drinking when the tow truck finally arrived. I thanked him and told him we would help him out and hubby would drive him home, he had already asked his missus to drive two of us the rest of the way from his house to Colac. Tow truck driver, Kevin, took us to motel, arranged a good rate, took hubby to show him garage then brought him back to motel. Fish and chips delivered to motel around 8 pm, ate with fingers out of paper Fell into bed Found out 3 options of trains to get home ( no hire car option with insurance, no where to hire car from easily anyway!) 7:30 - missed, 12:50 or 4:50 even 12:50 would see us getting home around 5pm. Next morning walked to garage, owner suggested getting car towed to nearer home, drive his loan car home, drop off at garage near home then tow truck would take his loan car back- no charge to us. Insurance not helpful to start with but finally agreed. Got home about 12:30 on Monday. Excess = $650 Still not seen snow in Victoria Whale alert tells me there have been whales, hump back and southern rights very close to shore on Tues and Wed this week Whoopy do!!!! NickyNook
In January, you're far, far more likely to run into bushfire caused by hot dry weather than to have any problems with snow, even in the high mountains. Stop worrying about snow - it's not going to happen. Huh? 1. It's not January. It's currently August in Australia 2. The OP is not worrying about snow - they want to see some. 3. Snow does happen.
