Guest rickstr
Hi, Was wondering if anyone could explain my options to me before i visit a migration agent, I've tried searching but could not find a situation similar to mine. I'm an Australian citizen, have been with my partner for four months, She's currently here on a working holiday visa which expires in March 2013, I realise we have not been together all that long but i'd like to try and find out what options, if any, are available to us come March next year. We won't have known each other for 12 months let alone lived with each other when her Visa expires, And the thought of marrying just for a visa does not appeal to me at all. Would it be possible come next year she apply for a bridging visa until we'd lived together for 12 months? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. blossom
No, you can't get a bridging visa. Is she on her first whv? If so, she can work in 'regional' Australia for three months in one of a number of jobs and get a second years visa. If she has already done that then your options would be a tourist visa where she can't work, or you both leave the country together until you have been living together for a year. Ohhh yer, one more option, but it is expensive is a student visa. You could look into six month courses to get you to the full year, but that would end up being about $5k. Good luck. lebourvellec
Either 2nd year WHV, or depending where you are in a Australia you can register you relationship with relationship register, this will waiver the 12 month relationship requirement. Really? Every single thing I have read, and heard from agents of people looking at getting defacto visas is that you HAVE to have lived together for a full year (with trips 'home' allowed). Do you have any links from immigration quoting that?

For example: in the case of a de facto partner relationship where there is a child from the relationship at the time of application of the partner visa, the de facto relationship was registered as a prescribed relationship in the relevant Australian state or territory legislation Also it is a relationship requirement - not living together. Thanks WA is not a state that you car register your relationship in - apart from Student visa or empoloyer sponsorship - it is unlikely that there will be a route for you to apply onshore. The chance of her being able to get a Tourist visa after spending 2 years in Australia on WHV would be very slim. Going over options with agent will be best thing to do.
