Guest stell
My hubby is from Perth. We are considering a move to Perth in about a year. What are the prospects for a 51 year old for part-time work in any field - unprofessional. Also, we need good schools for our 2 children who will be 9 and 14 when we move. Recommendations would be appreciated. Ta Stella
fleabo
Welcome to PIO, Stella! My observation (and it is by no means gospel) is that if you have family/friend contacts here it can help a great deal in securing employment. Also, you may want to have a browse or post something on our WA section too on schools. You may get more focussed help on the job opportunities there too. Good luck! MARYROSE02
Well, if he can do bar or barista, he'd have no problem getting work in pubs and cafes in Sydney, so I guess it's the same in Perth? Or even better. How much IS a flat white in Perth anyway? I'm 58 and I've found it hard to get work - as a clerk - although I usually secure contracts every few months or so - just started one with the ATO which has ran for a month now, and hoping for at least another couple of months. flag of convenience
Without contacts probably not easy. Perth is very much who you know. Some may suggest ageist as well....but not impossible.

Perth was tough going in 95/96 with lots of grads on the dole. I can't say it is worse now but have certainly noticed it harder than a year or so back.
