TristanH
Hello, Can you certify copies of things in Australia if I am applying from England (but visiting Aus soon, so I am wondering if I can certify things whilst I am there). Or do I have to certify in England? My research hasn't really given a clear answer if this is possible.

S92LAME
i dont think it matters who certifies it, as long as the certifier is qualified there is no reason for it to be refused. after all, why refuse a qualifed australian?
littlegreenman
Absolutely no problem. Since there are people from all over the world applying for visas it would be silly if they had to be certified in the UK. As long as the person is authorised to issue certified true copies in the respective country you'll be fine. In your case I highly recommend you get it done in Australia since any justice of the peace will do it for free while in the UK you pay for each copy. Keep in mind that the more evidence you supply, the more likely your application is to breeze through. So make use of the copies being free here. Candygirl
We are in Spain and were worried that we would have to have everything certified here by a Spanish Notary (which is not cheap). I spoke to DIAC in Madrid and also in London and both confirmed that as long as the documents are certified by an official person it does not matter which country it is done in. I am flying back to the UK to get all mine done as I was quoted €2000 to get it done in Spain and £75 to get it done in the UK. Even the airfare, I am still saving and will have time for a quick shop as well.

flatpack
A family friend is a retired JP, would he be able to do it?
Guest GeorgeD
A family friend is a retired JP, would he be able to do it? He's probably the best person to answer that! A JP can do it, but is he still a JP who has retired from his other occupation or do you need to re-register as a JP every so often and he hasn't? As someone said above, as long as you use someone who can legally do it in the country you have it doen then it is fine. In Oz there are free JP services in most shopping centres at least 1 day per week. Oz is big on certified docs and witnessing statements for all manenr of things, so people always need access to these services, and they are provided free in lots of places.
