gemstone
Hello all, It all seems so much more real after today. The shipping company came this morning and were packed up and gone by half 3. Empty house now... Living with parents for 2 months and then off to Melbourne on 1st October. I cant wait. Just need to sort work out now. Slightly scary... Is anyone else going to Melbourne in September/October?? Gem
Happyviolet
The time will fly - I've been staying with my parents for the last couple of months since our stuff was shipped and husband started job in Sydney. I've been waiting til our dogs could fly but we're all off next week! Will miss my parents, who have been so awesome about having me and the 2 terrors to stay, but very excited about going. Good luck with the next two months.

Guest lemongirl
Was it PSS? Are you the reason they were 4.5 hours late getting to my house? Seriously though, yay! Exciting isn't it! So glad to have had my stuff shipped out finally yesterday as well! We are leaving in 6 days though, eek!!

Lots of good recommendations on these threads, I'd arranged for a couple to come and give quotes until I found out we didn't have a choice! Our stuff was packed at this end and delivered in Oz when they said it would be, very happy with them. The dogs are going through Petair, and the car via iron lady imports. Both found on here! Guest shaznjase
We're moving to Melbourne too! Activated our visa in November but had been waiting to sell the house. We've sold recently so hoping to be out in Melbourne in September/early october. Where in Melbourne are you planning on going to? We're going out Eltham? fosseboy
What a nightmare this is turning out to be and we haven't packed yet! We have had 4 quotes - GB Liners, Crown, Gersons and Britannia. The most helpful and best at keeping in touch has been GB. Britannia sent a quote and never followed up. Crown took 4 weeks to visit because they were so busy. I was impressed by having one firm at both ends. They were my first choice but getting hold of people to discuss and clarify things has been near impossible, so much so that I had to ask if they had closed their Birmingham office and send a chase to Perth as well! Disappointing. Gersons were my wife's first choice but are expensive and their quote was not clear but they have simplified it. They moved Margaret Thatcher, rock stars and other difficult items but all I want is a smooth move. We seem to be taking a lot compared to others on this site as our quotes are for a 40 ft container to include the car...and we may need groupage for any overspill. Quotes are £9467, £7325, 8057 but still not sure if I am comparing apples with pears. We are going to Perth in January but hoping to ship in November. My wife is Australian so its homeward bound for her, emigrating for me. Someone used the word "emigrating" the other day and it was a bit of a shock! samlee337
We've got Crown coming on Thursday to pack up our home and im in major panic mode  Im looking around thinking 'surely i can get rid of some of this' but im looking blind. Any recommendations as to what to leave behind. Things you wish you didnt bring. We're taking pretty much everything as its all relatively new. Happyviolet
Have they said you need to leave stuff because of space, or are you ok? We ended up leaving a cheap (battered) ikea sofa and 2 chairs - would have taken up lots of space but fairly low value to us. Otherwise we shipped pretty much everything. Had wanted to have a sort out before but ran out of time! I was pretty stressed before and during, but so happy when it had all gone! And it all arrived fine at the other end :-)
samlee337
They did say that we'd have to leave the futon bed behind but my OH was having none of that so we've 'tried' to have a good clear out to create space for it. Just hope we've done enough. Suppose we'll find out tomorrow :wideeyed::smile:

Fosseboy try http://www.pssremovals.com/ they have been very thorough and constantly in touch with me even to see how our visas are going etc...little things like that make a big difference. They have quoted me £4000 for a container with car....and that includes them packing and loading and the goods being insured and their immigration agents fee the otherside...worth a look id say. keep me posted Dan
