Guest Levimouse
Hi all I received my positive skills assessment from the ICAA today - woohoo! I had already prepared my EOI and so was going to check and submit it tonight to try and get it in before the end of the month. Anyway on a 189 visa I calculated my points to be 65, but the EOI states I am claiming 75! I understand the importance of getting the EOI correct (thanks Alan) and so want to make sure 100% that I have this right. I have trawled through the GSM booklet from DIAC to review my points and can only see one place I could have got the calculation wrong. In summary this is what I am claiming Age - 31 = 30 points English Language - IELTS scored at least 8 in all = 20 points Educational Qualifications - Bachelor Degree = 15 Total = 65 My question is then on the Educational Qualifications do I get another 10 because I have received the positive skills assessment? On page 24 of the GSM booklet 6 it offers 5 options from Doctorate down to positive skills assessment. Can I get points from 2 elements of this page? I didn't think I did and therefore only have 65 points but I think the EOI is counting my skills assessment for another 10. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Kim

Guest Levimouse
How much points are you claiming for Work experience?? 5 Years?? None. I only have 3 post qual years from sept 2012 so don't want to wait nor deal with faff of getting paperwork together. My plan was that if by September I hadn't been invited we'd either go for WA SS or try and claim for work experience. Thanks walkwater. It only took 2 weeks! Guest Levimouse
Ok so I've worked it out. The extra 10 points were coming from the work experience (Thanks Lebourvellec). In the work experience section I completed the 3 jobs I have done in last 10 years. The last one is relevant to the skill I am applying under but I am not attempting to claim any points for work experience. I have now changed this to 'not relevant' and it has updated my points to 65 as expected. My questions now are, 1. Will this affect my Visa application if I say my current job does not relate to my skill (even though it actually does)? 2. If yes to the above do I HAVE to claim the work experience points regardless? I have done my current job for 5 years and 11 months. The 1st 3 were as a trainee and so not claimable as relevant. The last 2 years and 11 months was as a qualified accountant and so are relevant. Therefore as at this moment I don't qualify for the points anyway. Do you think I should just separate this job into 2 so that the EOI does not think I am eligible anymore. Oh my God does this even make sense anymore? Thanks for reading if you got this far. Walkwater/Lebourvellec your thoughts would be appreciated. Kim
Guest Levimouse
Right so I reckon I am talking to myself but finding my semi-insanity quite funny. I'm sure others must appreciate the madness. I have split my current job into 2 - trainee and qualified accountant. This now still gives me the 65 points as I don't qualify for the 3 years work experience until next month. Ok so final question. If I don't get invited before I roll over into 3 years will my EOI update to 70 points? I know it sounds silly but I don't mind having only 65 points as if I don't get an invite and read the reports in August and they are only inviting people with higher points than me I will just go for state sponsorship. I really don't want to have to get all the stuff needed to claim for work experience. Lazy I know. Thanks again
lebourvellec
If you have 2 different job titles within the same company - it may be worth seperating them likley you have suggested. This EOI thing is new to everyone - so maybe speak to a RMA
