Guest jurrigggg
Hi all! I am very new here so please forgive me if i make any mistakes. I am applying for a WHV visa, and am just wondering if any of you know of a crocodile handler / zoo keeper / herpetology job in australia that i can apply for when i get the visa? I know that Aus has a lot of crocodiles, and Ive tried the seek site as well as a few crocodile farms' site, but so far i havent been able to find any openings. Now I dont have any formal qualification, I do have a bachelor degree but it's actually in finance, and I will go for bank jobs instead if i cant find an animal-related jobs. But animals have been my passion, and for the past few years I have been working in a reptile farm mainly handling and researching alligators, iguanids, pythons and other snakes, and I think now I actually do better in that field. Thanks a lot for your time guys, looking forward to good news
Guest guest30085
Hi Welcome to PIO Im not sure about if there are any requirements/qualifications for working with Animals in Oz, you may get some work as a helper etc, but would be restricted to six months with each employer as per the requirements of the WHV. Below is a link for seek.com.au under the Farming, Animals & Conservation category, you may find something in there relevant to your experience. There may be some backpacker work listed though. http://www.seek.com.au/JobSearch?DateRange=31&SearchFrom=quick&Keywords=&industry=6205&nation=3000
Perthbum
Jobs with animals are so popular that dought very much you would get a paid job before an Australian to be g honest and without qualifications it looks even more unlikely.
Guest51810
There was a crocodile type job on here not that long ago, it should be in the backpacking part of the forum
Johndoe
My grand daughter has just got a full-time job as a volunteer at australia zoo which she managed to acquire whilst in the UK. You could give them a try as I know that they do employ WHV's.
Freckleface
The crocodile farm in Cairns seems to advertise for staff on a semi regular basis - maybe try them.
Guest AKA63029
Hi four gggg's. The best thing you can do is rock up or drop them an email and see if they want anyone. Normally it will be volunteering only but if you have enough savings behind you or get another casual job then this could be the way to go. 'Experience' counts no doubt, but with the right aptitude and willingness to muck in sometimes an opening will be made available for you. Good luck matey, if successful it will hold you in good stead if you ever want to pursue this kind of career at a later date. Cheers Tony.
