australia94
Hey all Just wondering how many people have been successful finding work in Australia from the UK? I am currently a PE teacher and my wife is a NVQ nursery assessor. We received our 175 visa in June so have started looking at job sites. Wife is keen for us to find jobs before we move so that we have some security when we arrive. Although I have worked in schools for the past 7 years I am looking at changing careers as there seems to be very little need for teachers in Perth and in particular PE teachers. I have previously worked in careers advice, as an estate agent and for a short time in an office. I really don't mind what I do just need enough to be able to rent a 3 bed house and afford food. I have been looking on Seek.au and have applied for some jobs, but with no success so far. I am beginning to widen the net a little from teaching but is it the case of employers only hiring people that are already in Australia. I applied for one job as an out of hours schools supervisor only to be told that I was not qualified to run sports after school as I did not have a certificate IV Outside of school hours qualification. Is it the case that for each job you need to pay for a new qualification. The jobs description was for running sports clubs after school but apparently as a PE teacher with 7 years experience I am not qualified to do this. We are planning on validating the visa during the Easter Holidays so may try and spend a week visiting companies and handing out CV's in person. But would love to find something over here so that we can change the validation and reccie into a permanent move.
calNgary
Hi Its quite hard to get a reply especially when your not in the country. I personally would ring around companys to see if they have any work regardless of if they are advertising for staff or not. This has worked for quite a few members. Good Luck Cal x

rob dc
Hi It is possible if you persevere, I emailed cv's to a lot of companies and had phone interviews and was offered a job which I accepted and my oh applied for several and sent cv's, had some skype interviews and has now got a really good job to go to. Neither in teaching i'm afraid but keep trying

Guest The Ropey HOFF
my wife is a nurse and we hope she will secure a job at a hospital prior to coming out, we have a plan of action, which also takes into account me getting a job before we emigrate as well, it won't be easy especially for me and we will probably risk it with just her getting work. Best of lck.
DR Moving to Oz
Hi i have applied for about 30 jobs since early December last year. I accepted one in early may after being offered 3 jobs one in Mackay, Perth and Griffith. Of the 30 that applied those were the only 3 that replied and that was because they were offering sponsorship. I do believe had i already had a visa would have got a few more bites. So i think as you already have a visa you should find it easier. Just remember they don't rush so be patient Good luck

The wife thinks she won't have a problem getting a job, apart from the reference bit, which i mention on the other thread, No it's me that is concerned, i will be 53 by the time we go and if i was say 48 like i was five years ago just before we started the visa process, i would be really confident of getting in, but being 53 i'm not sure now. australia94
Good to know that there are some people who have managed to secure employment. I'll keep plugging away and see what happens.
