Sara8
Hi Everyone, Hopefully I will be lodging my 457 eVisa application soon so I am trying to gather all the information I need in preparation to upload and send as soon as I get the go ahead. I have been reading through pages and pages of info that are making my head spin:wub: Please can anyone tell me what documents I will need? Also if I scan my original documents do they need to certified? I am going over as a Registered Nurse. Any help would be great. Thanks Muchly Sara xxx

Paul B
I suppose i am one of the newer arrivals on a 457 in oz on this site. I am in engineering so cant comment on the nursing side of things but with my visa it was quite easy. I was offered my job and had to send ALL documents like passport, drivers license, birth certificate etc and also all my qualifications right back to school days so i bought myself a good scanner to do it all in a decent colour quality and saved them all as will need later. What i also did on some advice was downloaded and printed Form 1066 as this will ask nearly all the questions you will need to answer later so you can prepare. After my company had done everything their end, i was sent a TRN which i could then use online to apply online. The website is a little tricky but have a good read as you go though as i found you could put too much in. I did try to start an online application as i was told i could but you wont get past the first page without the TRN number. I filled in the online forms and then submitted at the end when i also had to pay or the froms do not submit. I did not upload any documents at that time. I logged out and came back later after a few days using the info (password etc) you are given at the time. I logged back in and started to upload documents which were simply a colour scanned copy and not certified, they were a decent resolution but not huge, just a good printable quality. After about a week, i received an email from a case officer asking for a certified copy of my passport, so i went online and put in Notary Public and there was one down the road, off i went and had it done for £30, came back and uploaded it. 4 days later i received the email granting the visa. On another note, my health insurance was the free one provided by my bank but i did get a proper letter from the branch showing the details rather than just saying i had it. Was not asked for IELTS or Health checks but then my trade is very different as not working with kids etc. Hope this helps, feel free to ask anything. yerrik
thanks for the info. may i know which bank provided you with a free health insurance? is this an australian bank? Sara8
Thanks for the info Paul B. Im heading to NSW too  where abouts are you? I have my insurance through my bank account too (Lloyds) so will contact them for a letter. From what I have read once registered with Medicare I wont need it with the exception of Ambulance cover? May I just ask, although you did'nt need IELTS, what did you put in that section of the form? I have not sat an IELTS as don't need it. Dorset
We were granted the 457 yesterday! The process was much easier and faster than I imagined. Wife is a doctor so similar to the original poster. Have a look at the 457 booklet, and try to tick off as many of the documents as you can. Some documents need to be certified - but this can be done by medical practioners amongst others, so have a chat with a friendly doctor at work. With regard to medical insurance, if you are a British citizen you can register with medicare on arrival which covers what you need for the visa - however, you need to prove that you are covered in the day or so after arrival before you register with medicare. For us we just sent a copy of our annual travel insurance document and that was fine. As you finish your application the electronic system will tell you what you need to do with regard to medicals. My wife had to have the full medical plus blood tests for HIV, hep B and C. Before you apply, have a search for "panel doctors australian immigration" to find your nearest and cheapest. (My wife's medical cost £300, and she had to travel for 3 hours to find the nearest to us). As you submit your application the electronic system will expect you to nominate which panel doctor you want to go to. Suggest you just make a start providing you have the employers nomination. You can save your electronic application as you go through, and go back to change things until you are ready to submit. From submission to grant our 457 application took about 3 weeks, but most of that was due to the AHPRA - but that is a different story.
Paul B
@Sara, i just ticked the "No" box for language as i found it a little confusing whether i needed it or not so just proceeded and thought i would be told if i needed it. I will be based in the Illawarra/Wollongong area if i dont loose the will to live with the real estate agents as the whole rental procedure is very strange and cut throat, especially as i want a few bedrooms as mates and family are hinting to come out already and i need an office to work from home. Can I just ask did your wife have to wait to be told when to have her medicals? The nearest ones to me are not so near either and apparently there may be a waiting list although I haven't rang them to find out yet. Did your wife have to wait long? How long has it taken for your 457 inc nomination etc from when you accepted your job? How did you get on with the medical? xxx Hi there! I registered with ahpra ( took just under 4 weeks) got the job in NSW in kogarah as a clinical nurse educator ( interview middle may and after reference checks NSW nomination approved by them 10th June) lodged my application on the 24th June put off having the medical until the 7th July and got visa through wednesday! still a bit speechless to be honest. Had my medical at the spire in brentwood and it was really not as bad as I thought it would be- eye test, checked my ears and looked in my throat, squat and stretch, listened to chest, had a breast check ( wasnt expecting that!), pulse bp, blood tests, height and weight and a chest x ray and a chat I guess to see if I really was sane ( debatable)... In the process now of negotiating a start date and then all systems go! I am quite methodical in my bohemian way so almost sorted for going I think! I am not thinking about a rental yet thats next weeks job! Marion x

The nearest ones to me are not so near either and apparently there may be a waiting list although I haven't rang them to find out yet. Did your wife have to wait long? Sara x I think for a 457 you can have the medical before applying, but it is all then done by paper which makes things take longer in any case ... Suggest you go for the electronic medical uploading. The process but is triggered immediately when you make the electronic visa application so comes up before you get a case officer. In my wife's case she went to the Maidenhead clinic who phoned to arrange a mutually suitable time. This particular clinic says they can normally arrange the medical within 2 weeks. Might be worth giving a ring to the clinic you are likely to use to see what they say. They will be charging you a fortune and will see you as a potential customer so will be keen to be helpful! All the best! Where are you going in NSW?
Paul B
The rental process is quite tricky, i dont think you will be able to organise anywhere before you get here, it is quite tough when actually visiting all the places. Basically, i went around all the real estate agents and was a little shocked as some have a reception and are a little unfriendly, they will give you a list of properties which is a list that will be out of date. I found the website AllSales very good as you can sort the properties that have inspections scheduled, the inspections tend to be organised so that everyone interested turns up in a 15 minute period to look around and thats it. You then have to submit an application if you are interested which will vary in complexity depending on the agent. Some use the points system for ID and references (30 for passport, 15 for medicare card etc) and need 100 in total, i may scan some i have and post so people can see. The one i have eventually used was more casual but did insist on Passport, Drivers Licence, Payslip or proof of income and letter comfirming employment including salary. I have no references as never rented before. This application is then processed by the agent and may be sent on to landlord for them to approve or not. If succssful you then pay a holding deposit and then sign lease. The agents are very liberal with the truth too and most places i viewed were complete holes, i did misjudge what i would nee to spend, but the details were rarly acurate with the property. I did find good ones but i also viewed 25 places over 3 days. Also, you need to be specific with the area in or around Wollongong you want to go as the agents have loads of regional offices and dont really worry about the next town over, this is where the internet searches come in handy. All a bit of a nightmare really and took alot out of me, sorry if this sounds daunting. If i was to do it again then i would allow at least a couple of weeks so i could get more used to how it works, i am also here alone which makes it harder. Please ask if you have any questions. Sara8
Thank you Paul B, sounds very scary. We will be bringing our cat too so probably going to be even more challenging. Your very brave going alone its such a big move. You never know we may end up in the same suburb. Where have you been looking for properties? Thanks so much for all the info. Hope you find something soon. Where are you staying at the moment? x
Sara8
@Dorset - Thank you Im hoping to get everything prepared this weekend. We are going to Wollongong but not sure if we will live there or in one of the surrounding areas. Just depends on transport to work. How are your plans getting along?x
Paul B
Its a fantastic area, look up the Grand Pacific Drive, i drove it today and its great, any of the towns along the coast is nice but each has its good and bad areas, spend a couple of weeks and explore is probably the best advice i can give. I have ended up renting in the Southern Highlands (near Mittagong) as i can be anywhere as working from home, the value for a place is worlds apart being back from the coast and is only 40 mins away. I also have 10 vineyards within a couple of kms so plently to do ;-)
