Car reg plates-sizes

Obviously when you take your car over to the warm place , you have to get new plates according the their registration process. What I wanted to ask is are the plates the same size as European plates? Or different? What size are they? The reason being , my husbands car has two holes in the boot where his plate is attached by (I think, I should really listen more carefully) and he wants to know if the oz plates are smaller then these holes will be visible , some would like to get them filled in. You maybe wondering why all the fuss, this carbon black 5 series is his pride and joy.

I think the do have smaller size car reg plates in Oz, but I think you can have europe size plates as well. Look at the pictures of cars on the Oz car websites to get an idea.

Not sure if all of Aus but in NSW you can get Euro plates (more expensive) which are the same size as UK. If you choose the white Euro, they are both the same, if you choose the black Euro, the front is smaller. I have the black so I still have my original front number plate surround which I had to tidy up.

Thank you pwkl. We are looking at moving to Victoria. So hoping that someone will verify the euro plates size are available there too. Fingers crossed.

There are two different sized plates here in Vic as well. Euro style are more expensive so we went for the bog-standard one,
