Point Cook / Sanctuary Lakes Area

Hello,

I've previously been to Melbourne and visited the East side staying in Mount Martha and loved the area, but know that living out that far brings with it a long commute from Frankston, so still nervous about moving all the way to Melbourne and having a commute similar to what I will have in the UK. I've been re-looking at areas closer to the city and am interested in getting some feedback on the Point Cook / Sanctuary Lakes area as my budget won't stretch to some of the closer suburbs into Melbourne on the East side. Having looked at some houses you appear to get more for your money versus say Mornington / Frankston South, but without the long train commute, so I just wonder what the downside is...If there is one.

Most important to us when we move will be: Good choice of primary schools, family orientated areas, friendly and quiet suburbs, good commute into CBD, beaches and a choice of houses for our $550K budget.

Would welcome the comments from any fellow PIOers who have made the move from the UK to Point Cook about the area in general and also any views on West versus East.

Thanks so much :)

Hi we live in Sanctuary lakes and love it. The commute is congested in rush hour and roads are improving slowly. Outside rush hour takes 25 mins into CBD.Getting better transport links is the downside. For schools look on victoria's education website. Lots of primary and less secondary schools. Bit of snobbery goes on East versus West but we love it.

It depends what you want and are looking for. There is nothing we don't have that I want other than the road works to be finished. Schools great for us. High school lined up. Pool and gym in SL. Great library, shops. Is there something missing for you Petkula?

Not at all - it's a nice area. My point was that the area is very new (and still being built). The houses are generally beautiful, you get a lot for your money and there is more space than in a lot of other suburbs. If you contrast this to the Eastern suburbs then they're dearer and generally more crowded, but what you do get is something that's had a hundred years or so to establish itself (things like markets, long running family restaurants and so on).

We had friends in Sanctuary Lakes and their house was stunning. As they say, you pay your money and take your choice (surely that should be the other way round though?!).
