W8ENN
We are considering 2 areas, Castle Hill because we like the look of it or Wollongong because it seems like a nice affordable beach area. To say I'm not the worlds greatest fan of spiders is a massive under statement, so my question is, do you see many? And do you get many come into the house? Are there any steps to take to stop them coming in? My main fear is the Huntsman, I know it's not deadly but it just creeps me out.
DR Moving to Oz
Hi I had this in mind myself so will be watching if that's ok. However i did spend a month in Sydney and never saw a single spider. Daren
Guest GeorgeD
Most people get their houses sprayed regularly to keep various bugs and pests out. Basically it kills them soon after they cross your doors/windows. you can do it yourself or get a pest control company out. If you are goign to rent, ask to see confirmation of the last pest control certificate. They can still get in your house, but that will stop most of them. You will either find them dead or dying. Depends on where you live too...live in the middle of a rainforest and you will see lts of creepy crawlies, live in a unit on the 13th floor in the city and you really won't see many! Seen one huntsman in over two years, it was in the house on the ceiling (very high ceilings) but it stayed out of my way and I its and eventually it wandered off. Alaska
I have spent about 18 months in Australia (over several different visits) and saw my first huntsman last week. Luckily it was in the garage. Absolutely massive though.
Guest Guest26012
See lots of red backs and seen a huntsman once ( dead) in four and a half years! You just learn to be aware that they might be there!
DR Moving to Oz
how long have you got if bitten by a redback
fleabo
There has not been a redback fatality for almost 60 years. There are 300 Funnel Web bites per year. Only 60 of these are potentially fatal. If you find a funnel web, catch it and take it to your local public hospital. It can then be milked to make anti-venom. You are probably more likely to be the victim of a drive-by than bitten by a funnel web, to be honest! how long have you got if bitten by a redback

I catch them and shove them in the plastic capsules you get out of white chocolate eggs before chucking them into the local playground. Now that's a Kinder Surprise, you little gits

Bob1
I'd be more worried about cockroaches - they're huge and run fast. One of my sons is scared of them but I'm happy to wack them with a slipper. the other son hates crickets - they are harmless but jump just as the slipper is about to make contact. Spiders - see may be one redback a year in the garden and the massive spiders come in the house every couple of years. Boys aren't scared of them and usually give them names like Nigel until they go away! Just look upon it as a chance to get over any phobia you may have! jove
I hear that redbacks hide under the toilet seat and wait there to bite unsuspecting people. The huntsmans favorite spot, so I hear, is under the sun screen panel of the car just waiting there until the driver lowers it to jump out at you and scare the crap out of you.... LOL Well thats the nightmares i have about spiders LOL
