Hiya,

I was in the same situation at the end of last year. With regards to speed of getting out there, a 457 VISA is probably your quickest option, which can then lead into a permanent application a couple of years down the line.

Can I ask did you do your apprenticeship at Arborfield? Do you have all your quals papers still? These are important and it might be an idea to get hold of them if you don't. Also your cert of service will come in handy.

As for finding jobs, I approached Acorn, Osborne.ie, Richard Thomas @ Cat, and put my CV out there on monster, westrac, Liebbherr and a few others, as well as applying for jobs I found while browsing the web. Interviews came through thick and fast, and I was in a position to choose out of 4 offers.

I now have a job to go to out there and my visa application was lodged by my employer earlier today.

Drop me a PM if you would like me to put a couple of agents your way. take some of the legwork out of it for you.

Cheers

Simon

Hi Jessamin,

I am the Recruitment Specialist at AMVL International Recruitment (www.amvljobs.com), which is part of one of Australia's largest migration firms. My job is to place overseas skilled workers with Australian employers (in to sponsored jobs) and we manage all visa arrangements for both parties.

One of the occupations that I recruit for, with the highest demand is Diesel Fitters and Mechanics. I'd be more than happy to look at tyour partner's CV/resume to see if we have any opportunities that may suit your family. If you're interested please email your partner's CV/resume to john@australianmigrations.com.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Best regards,

John Young

I work in agriculture Service Management for a major manufacturer. The industry is on its knees as all skilled people have gone to the mines but that leaves lots of good vacancies for mechanics of all skill levels and ability, might be worth a look in that area as lots available.

Hi nutsy, I didn't get the job. I am looking at going to Canada as I don't think I am going to get anything in Australia. Good luck and I hope it all goes well for you

I had a phone call from arron, bis said I didn't score highly enough in my health & safety. Found that a bit strange but never mind. I have been in touch with an immigration agent in Canada and I reckon I can get a good job and pr over there. I am Alfie MacKay from Blaengarw. Happy barbies

Hi Guys I tried all these agencies, AMVL, Richard thomas, international recruitment, ETC; The problem I have is I am 55, although I am a qualified Heavy and light vehicle Mechanic with heaps of experience and have been living in melbourne, no one is interested: I even took Australian vehicle quals to try and further my prospects:so after being in melbourne for 2 years having to leave the country every 90 days to reset my visa: I have returned to UK to work and build up my funds to try again

Even though there is a shortage of Heavy Diesel Mechanics, my AGE is still a problem; so in some respects Oz can be backward

I think you have to accept that Australia don't want to know if you are over 45.
