457 expiry confusion

Hi,

I lost my job mid-May, and was on a 457. My employer and their immigration agent said that I should wait for a letter from Immigration. After my notice period and the legal time that my employer had to notify Immigration that they were no longer my sponsor (10 working days), I was told that I have 28 days from hearing from Immigration. It's now been 6 weeks, and I still haven't heard from them or received any correspondence. My 457 visa is still active according to the VEVO site. Should I speak to Immigration, or do I just wait to hear from them?

Any thoughts, or experience of this, would be much appreciated.

Many thanks.

Hi Lindsay

im due to come over on a 457, and somewhere along the line, i was told that should i part company with my sponsoring employers, i have 28 days to find another job or leave the country :daydreaming:

You have passed this deadline , though your visa is still active ?

Personally, i would speak to immigration asap (only cos things like that worry me)......

I'm no expert and someone will come along and help you............

Tho IMO the only people who can help and answer your questions are immigration.

Good luck xx

Your visa has a condition attached that you must be working for your sponsoring employer, you are not and therefore your visa is not valid. VEVO is not always up to date, I am not on there at all for example.

You must not just sit and wait for a letter, you have to take responsibility too. I would visit a migration agent before immigration, immigration will for sure give you notice to leave, so visit the migration agent first to discuss strategies for staying first. Don't let this drag on, you could get yourself in a lot of trouble.
