gas safe engineer looking to find job in australia!!!

hiya im a gas safe engineer living in the uk looking to move to australia and find work in my trade preferably in melbourne, ive heard that it is difficult to get the qualifications recognised in australia if you havent done an apprenticeship in the past, i gathered the skills i needed to do my job over the space of 2 years and then completed a portfolio as proof of this i am fully qualified in the uk so dont see why this should be a problem in australia, if anyone has any answers or contact details of an organisation in australia that i could talk to it would be much appreciated thank you very much
