New Regional sponsored subclass 489

Bamboozled

Recommended Posts

Hi,

We are about to move slightly outside of brissy to postcode 4301 and I just saw that it puts us in a 'low metropolitan growth' area!! Which means I can now sponsor my son and his family on a 489 visa! I'm over the moon! Son is a carpenter and I'm hoping to get the ball rolling soon, does anyone know if we have to live there for a certain amount of time before I can be his sponsor? We are buying so truly settling in the area, just a brilliant boon that we can get them out. Hope it doesn't take too long! I know it's only a four year visa but it's a good way in as he will be able to get pm after 1 year of full time work in his profession.

Very happy mum!

To get PR he needs to live for 2 years/work full-time for 1 year at any job - to be eligible for PR.

"If you are being sponsored by an eligible relative, your sponsor must be a resident in a designated area of Australia at the time of the sponsorship."http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/index/visas/subclass-489/

Your son should run his case past a registered migration agent - as Carpenter and Joiner is on the QLD state migration plan, with points reducing to 60 on 1 July, and 5 points for State nomination - he may be eligible for the 190 visa. Which is processed alot faster than the 489 family sponsored - due to the limited number of places each year.

Hi, thanks for your reply, I did tentatively approach a lady from go Matilda via email, just wasted it on a silly question really, but when I emailed back asking for her charges for more advice she never got back to me. We simply don't have the cash to throw at a migration agent which is why I use this forum to ask for help from people who may have been down that road as it were! I have surprised myself too that I have been able to help people with questions that are about to go through what we did. There are a lot of people on here who's first answer says go to a migration agent, there are also a lot of agents I think. But honestly with a bit of research and friendly advice from the 'community' which is what we are, I have managed a great deal without having to pay someone to tell me what to do.

Not everyone comes here with a uk house sale in the bank and not everyone has money to spare. But with an adventurous spirit, a bit of tenacity and good advice from others in the same boat us poor people can migrate too! Thanks for suggesting the 190 I will look in to it. My son is only 23 with 5 years experience (including his nvq2 course alongside his full time job) I'm not sure how he will fare against older people with more experience with regards to ss. He also has a partner and a young child. 4301 IS a designated area, I looked it up so fingers crossed we can do it. The vetassess alone will clear us out financially lol so I Spose if it takes a whole it will give us chance to recoup as we go!

Thanks again for your reply I do appreciate it
