spud-u-like Posted June 11, 2006 Share Posted June 11, 2006 Has anyone got any experience of the former resident visa (sub class 151) I was brought up there for 15 yrs in the late 70's and early 80's and am currently reapplying to move back out there? I've been told only about 1 every 16,000 are this type of Visa so the odds aren't good! Just getting all my final paperwork together,the police checks, medicals, and all other evidence has been sent off. Any help would put my mind at rest!!!!!!!!! Hi I don't know anything about the visa you are escribing. I shouldn't think many Migration Agents would either. Are you using an Agent? If not, I would suggest a quick e-mail exchange with Tony Kidd, George Lombard or both, to see what each of them says. George is a Migration Agent who is very prolific on the British Expats forum. He may well have experience of this type of visa. Tony Kid is a solicitor who specialises in Australian Immigration Law, and he is a Migration Agent on top. Both are fully-registered with the MARA and you can get their contact details from the MARA website. Tony used to be an in-house solicitor advising the Members of the Migration Review Tribunal about the cases before the Tribunal, so if anyone knows what the potential traps are with this visa it is likely to be Tony Kidd. I am 99% complete with the paperwork, just awaiting a Cypriot police check to come through. I beleive this visa goes to a panel of experts and they make the final decision, but I'm getting nervous as no one has even heard of this visa as its v.very rare!! I shud have no problems, medicals fine, no convictions, formative years spent over there, my dad still living there and willing to provide accom and I have a lump sum investment and a v. good monthly pension, so providing for myself shouldn't be aproblem. Still the odds are all against me!!!! Hmm. Why? Do I gather that it is some sort of discretionary visa? It sounds as if it may be (I didn't know that some might be.) Is there no other visa-class you could have applied for (eg skilled migraton) in your own right? Probably a dumb question, though, because I imagine that your Agents would have explored that avenue first. Do you have any idea of how long it might take them to process your application once it has been submitted? Is it one of the quick ones like a spouse visa, or is one which could take till Doomsday like the one for Parents who are unable to stump up the money for the no-longer-quick but not quite as slow Contributory Parent variety? (A whole other topic which is irritating me mightily at the moment....!) Please keep in touch and let us have progress reports. I'll Swap Whinges with you if you wish... Just thought I'd keep you in the picture, all our stuff went off via our agent in Brissy, we have been allocated a CO but they have come back with - our police check will go out of date in Dec 06? so I have to get them redone and our medicals (even though they were sent to the LCU 4 mths ago) are also out of date so they'll need redoing as well. I can understand re-doing the police checks since they haven't long to live now, but what is going on with the meds? It is nonsense to say that those need re-doing, so something is not right here, my friend. Have you checked whether the LCU has actually received your meds and if so, whether they have been processed? They are shockers for sending medical papers to storage on Day One instead of processing the ruddy things first. This is the sort of chasing up that most agents won't do for you, so try here, I suggest. http://www.immi.gov.au/contacts/australia/processing-centres/lcu-sydney.htm A friend of mine had to chase all round the houses in July because the LCU had sent his meds to storage instead of to the mOC when he was Cat B on the meds and therefore the papers needed to be read by a doctor. First the LCU's excuse for ineptitude was that the meds were "Being processed." By whom, and where? "The MOC." No they aren't (said Rob, egged on by me) because I have phoned both Health Services Australia and the Health Assessment Service, and neither of ot them has ever received my medical papers, so where are they 'being processed' and by whom? :evil: "Derrr???!! Wait one while we investigate, please...." :? Sure enough, the LCU admitted that they had made an error in their filing & storage arrangements. It could have been worse, because by then Rob & I were worried in case his meds had been filed in a skip. They did find them very quickly after they had been wrong-footed into looking for them instead of dozing, but you have to do a lot of kickig to get anyone in that unit to think outside of the box, we discovered. Is the Panel Doctor still sitting on your meds by mistake? Has he sent them to the wrong place? By what means did he despatch them, because if he used a courier then he can discover when they were delivered to the LCU and what happened to them if they were not so delivered. I certainly wouldn't go and waste a load of money on a second lot of meds if the ifirst lot were only done four months ago. I'd make DIMA took for them instead. Still, the good news is that you are obviously going to get the visa, in spite of your pessimism at the outset, I strongly suspect. Please let us know what happens about the meds.
