Phil & Vikki
Hi All, just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for us. We currently live in north sydney but are looking at buying a house. We both work in north sydney and the kids are settled in daycare and school and we don't really want to move them. We have been looking at north sydney/waverton/chatswood area's but the houses (looking for a 3 bed place) are either not what we want or too expensive. Can anyone suggest any nice places within about 20/30 mins drive (and if it has a train station even better) of north sydney to move to? Or if anyone has any suggestions of place that are not that nice so we can stay away from them. Thanks all, Vikki

Phil & Vikki
Hi, Thanks for the reply's. We are looking around $750k for a house really. had a look on domain at area's like Pymble, Gordon, Nomanhurst, Thornleigh. We've been told that places like french forests, St Ives, and around those area's are nice but haven't been able to get there yet to have a wander around. Anyone have any opinions? lucy boo
Hi, I have lived in the North shore, we settled in Turramurra, good schools, nice people, next to Pymble, on the train line, St Ives is nice, but you would have to catch a bus to the trainline, as there is no station in St Ives. For a good sized house rents are around 600 - 800 a week, we rented a old house with a pool, which was fine at first but realised the house was so out of date, but the pool had inflated the price of the house, the kids loved the pool, but to be honest I'd rather of had an up together house. Obviously the closer you are to the city the more expensive rent becomes, just like London, but having said that there is more going on nearer to the city, depends what you're used to really. Pymble is a nice spot, nice outdoor pools, and parks. Good Luck, hope this helps
fleabo
We live on the "poor man's" side of Wahroonga. Its a nice area with reasonable schools. Very suburban. There are some properties that are 3 bedroom but often they are bigger-sized houses with more bedrooms/living areas etc. Have a search on 'onthehouse' to find out recent sale prices and see what you might get for your money in the differest areas you have mentioned (if you have not already done so). We had a pretty good idea of where we wanted to live given our circumstances - I am neither recommending it or otherwise - it suits us. We arrived in 2010 with a budget similar to yours but ended-up spending a bit more, but then got a much bigger house than we thought we would (and need tbh). Have I mentioned PAINTing yet?? I am probably stating the bleeding obvious - as you travel down the train line things get more expensive - the same size house to ours in Pymble would probably cost $100k more, another $100k more to live in Gordon etc. etc. Its a lot of extra cash to save 5 minutes on the train every morning (OK there is more too it than that!) The closer the house is to the trainline, the more $$ you pay etc. We has an SIL who lived in Thornleigh for a time. Its a nice enough area. No idea about school options there though - they moved before their kids reached school age. Hi, Thanks for the reply's.
