Hello you lovely people

Me and my partner have decided to move to Australia in the new year. I am an electrical estimator in the construction industry

My first task is to look into the visa process

I am wondering if anyone can answer the following questions that I have

Were do you go to apply

How long will it take on average

What costs are associated

Please can you also give me any advice from your experience that you might think I would need

Thanks in advance

im an electrician iv done it without an agent it has cost us just over £1500 in total we were sponsored by W.A gov so they paid half the visa you will have to do an 18 week course when you get there as your uk electrical qualification mean nothink when you get there !

I am also a sparky and have so far got as far as getting my trade recognised (TRA) all on my own.

I just have to get my visa (a mere formality) sorted out and bingo!!!

If you have all the qualifications and can prove you have been working in your said profession youcan do all the paperwork yourself (and save a bundle in the process).

Good luck and feel free to ask any questions (via PM)

First thing is to find out if your trade is on the occupation in demand list (which will give you more points), as Ian is in your trade then he'll be able to give you pointers. Look at his time line (the list in blue and red), which will give you an indication of time scale. Having your skill assessed is your first hurdle (although i'm told getting all the documentationt together takes a bit of time too).

On line applications at the moment seem to be being processed more quickly than paper - whether that will change as more people do it this way I don't know.

Check out Department of Immigration and Citizenship

Good luck

Hello Ian

I dont think I will need to retake a test for an autralian licence. I have a HNC in electrical engineering as well as the usual modern apprenticship qualifications along with a 2391/01. I am not going to be working on site carrying out installation works. I am hoping that my qualifications as an engineering professional will be converted. along with the 10 years experience I have of doing the job that I am applying for.

What do you think?

Cheers

Mark

im on the tools and i got 236 pt1 am1 236pt2 am2 practical side of 2391 needed to resit my written part but no point now as all is worthless when i get there

Thats the same as what I have for the installation side but I am just hoping that because Im not on the tools, I will not have to resit an exam. I will do if I have too but I suppose it will affect my earning potential. I would imagine that you would have to work as a mate until you get your quals sorted.

Heres hoping that you employer sees how quick you are and just gives you your full rate

Im looking at the costs for a skilled independant (migrant) visa (sub class 175)

It says that the costs for 1st and 2nd installments is a total of $4900 thats roughly £2,200. Is that what everyone else has to pay or am I reading it wrong

Hi, just saw your reply to a post and wondered if you may have more info on the way you got sponsored by WA gov. Are you on 457? My OH is sparky here and we were looking into possibility of getting sponsored to get out there (poss queensland or Victoria as have family and friends in both) Also considering the skilled visa route but would rather be out there sooner rather than later and cost seems to be less on sponsored visa than skilled.

Any advice or tips is greatly appreciated

We used an agent to help apply for our visa and they were sooo good, offered all the help and advice we needed and even gave us templates to base ,stat decs and references on ,,with everything including visa costs and meds it was approx 3,500 gbp.
