Sids Dad Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Hi everyone, we had a gent from a removals company who said we could not take our bed to Australia? now I know there are strict regulations regarding cane furniture, garden tools etc but my bed? I mean I love this bed, its less than a couple of years old and cost a packet. Is there anyway we can take it? even if we have to get it fumagated it will be worth it to me, anyone make this a bit clearer?
Guest monty Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 I hope thats not the case!!!!! We are expecting our bed to arrive in Oz on 31st Dec. Shippers didn't say it wasn't allowed!!!!! Like your bed ours was a really good quality and we have shelled ut on an okay quality for the moment which we willuse in the spare room when the relies come to stay. Monty
Guest chrissy63 Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Hi PSS never said we couldn't take ours either.
calNgary Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 What is the bed made of ? ,the only thing customs really frown on is untreated pine/cane.Beds are slightly different in size here so stock up on bedding before you come, dont forget you use lots of sheet sets rather than duvets ,but i guess youll know that ,lol Cal x
The Broughtons Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 I'd want a bit more explanation as to why you can't bring it if I were you! We bought pine furniture and a pine bed with us without any problems and the mattress. I loved my bed but have put it in the spare room now because the one we bought as a temporary measure is bigger and the mattress on it is great for my back. I know how you feel though - I really wanted my bed brought out as one of those comfort things. Felicity:cute:
ali Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 I brought 2 pine bed frames without problem. The wood on beds isn't usually untreated anyway and there shouldn't be a problem. Like Felicity our old bed is now our spare bed as we bought some new bedroom furniture. Ali
KazzE Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Yeh, but, no, but yeh what about getting new mattresses when you need them? what sort of difference?
ali Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 we bought a new single mattress for the single bed (which seems to fit perfectly), we brought the double mattress with us. Ali
Sids Dad Posted December 24, 2007 Author Posted December 24, 2007 Sorry gang, panic over, my wife thinks he was talking about the large Pillows that are feather filled? so I suppose they must be disallowed? At least I can take the bed! Thanks for the replies. Alan.
Guest The Picketts Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 Hi Sid's Dad, just thought I would mention we also brought our goose down duvets and pillows - I understand that feathers etc that are used in good quality bedding are usually treated - I just packed them up with the other sheets etc - all these things are expensive in Oz as mentioned in threads on PIO earlier this year. Cheers, have a good Christmas - looking foward to your next installment! Cheryl
