Guest Colin and amy Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Hi All, We are due to leave on xmas day and only have a one way ticket, we are applying for a 457 visa but it has been delayed and we are now very worried that we wont be able to either leave the UK or enter oz with a 1 way ticket when we only have a 3 month temp bussiness visa at the moment, this is due to the 457 visa being delayed? If anyone can help we would really appreciate it as we dont know what to do as the flight company cant even help us. Should we just buy a return ticket and lose the money etc or will it be ok to have a 1 way ticket??? :swoon: HELP!!!!!!!! Thanks guys, Colin and Amy
Guest Gollywobbler Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Hi Colin & Amy Get Singapore Airlines reservations o the phone. Ring them in Singapore if need be. If you call the London number you will have to listen to Muzak for half an hour but eventually you will get a human and they are helpful when you do get them on the phone. The chances are that SQ would not worry about your using a one-way ticket because they understand Australian visas better than any other airline including Qantas. DIAC does not require you to have an onward or return flight reservation. All that DIAC require is evidence that you have the wherewithal to buy a ticket if need be. If you can't get sense on the phone, march to the airport you are planning to fly from. March in, go to the SQ Information Desk and thump the table with them till then bring their Station Officer and their Boarding Officer to your side. The Boarding Officer is the one who decides whether to let you onto the plane. The Station Officeris responsible for getting SQ flights away on time, so you need both of them singing from the same hymn sheet if need be. Both of them work at the airport, so the easiest thing is to go and collar them there if necessary. The tickets can be bought at the information desk if need be. The Boarding Officer will know that DIAC run a Helpdesk for the airlines, which is run from Canberra and is manned 24 hours a day including Christmas Day. Any airline can ring them at any time, day or night, to check the validity of a visa for Oz and also to get DIAC to confirm the visa conditions. On this number, DIAC will also confirm that they are not worried about whether or not you have an onward reservation as long as you have enough lolly to buy one. Do not leave this till Christmas Day because if you get bogged down in bickering with the Boarding Officer for too long, the Station Officer will simply close the flight and tell the Captain to leave without you. Best wishes Gill
Guest Toutys Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Hi Colin and Amy, Please do not worry, we are in the exact same situation, we are waiting for my husbands police checks to come back before the 457 visa is approved, we fly out with only a one way ticket 29th December. As Gollywobbler mentioned (and confirmed by our agent) all you need to be able to do when your 457 visa is approved is that you have enough money in your bank account to be able to purchase a ticket home. Good luck and i hope your new life down under is everything you've ever dreamed of. Rach x
