Guest Gollywobbler Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Hi BigJez If you have a 136 visa you can certainly go to Adelaide if you prefer. Some of the nicest (includig the very nicest) houses that I saw on "Wanted DowUnder" lst year were in Adelaide. I couldn't believe that you coul get a lovely house there, in a beautifully landscaped garden including a pool, for the equivalent of £250K sterling. I'd suggest that you join Poms in Adelaide, which is a sister site to this one, and also AdlaideBrits and ask around on both sites. A dear friend of mine moved to Adelaide last year. She lost my e-mail address in the move. She was trying to find me and I didn't know her Australian e-mail address. I started a thread on Adelaide Brits. Within 24 hours I had 3 responses. One lady had heard of my friend and was going to try to make enquiries. Aother offered to search the phone book and ring Lisa's Hubby's employers, who are a big household name multinational so not hard to find but the lady need not have bothered to offer to track Lisa's Hubby down via the company, obviously. A third lady sent me a PM saying she had met Lisa & Hubby at a BBQ the night before, they had swopped numbers and she would ring Lisa to give her my e-mail address. It really does seem to be an AMAZINGLY friendly expat community in Adelaide. Nothing is too much trouble and they go out of their way to help one another. Lisa had hassle with her container. It was impounded in the docks because the shippers had not paid Port Dues or something. Loads of people rallied round and lent the family everything they needed in order to manage until the container was sorted and their own stuff was finally delivered to their unfurinshed rental. Cheers Gill
oldgit Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 I Am Going For The 136 Skilled Visa And Was Told By My Agent That I Did Not Have To Go To The Area That I First Stated On My Application Form You Can Go Any Were. All The Best Simon
The Broughtons Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 We arrived on a 136 visa in September. Our agent described this as a golden ticket of the visa kind - go anywhere and do anything. Although we stated Melbourne on our application and we came out on my teaching skills I could have set up an ice cream stall on the beach on the Gold Coast if I had wanted to (so to speak!) Life on easy street Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 136-visa can we go anywhere? YES It is my understanding that The advantages of the 136 visa there are very few restrictions on were you Can work. You do not have to work in the trade that you got your visa on. Plumbers are paid a great deal more than a lot of other jobs so you would Probably stay in plumbing. From what I have seen on the Internet there are more jobs available in NSW than Most other states. Have you thought of Melbourne ? You can still get housing at a reasonable price compared to UK prices. If you are prepared to live more than 40 min from Melbourne.
Guest bigjez Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 to be honest we have only been thinking of nsw because my wifes brother as lived in nsw for two years and we have been to sydney and liked it but my brother has just recently moved to oz and gone to adelade so thought we would have a look at houses ect so i am quite open minded where we go just need some pointing in the right direction
Quoll Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 As always, I try and remind people of our lovely national capital - and getting a plumber or any tradesman for that matter is like pulling teeth! Then when they do come, they charge and arm and several legs so plumbers always welcome here!!! Have you had a look at realestate.com.au for the best range of houses for sale?
Guest bigjez Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 yes i spend my life between pio and realestate.com.au looks like job prospects are good just hope someone will give me a chance and i think we will do ok
