Guest dwa33 Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 I'm a NZ citizen on a Special Category Visa. My partner is British on a 5 year spouse visa. Does anyone know the tax status for my partner? Is she taxed the same as an Australian citizen like me?
buzzy--bee Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 You are confusing residency status with TAX residency status. All people who are residents in Australia for tax purposes, regardless of their immigration status, are taxed the same. Normally to be tax resident you need to live in Oz more than 6 months of the year. Some tax breaks are available to you on your visas, such as not having to pay tax in Australia on income earned and retained overseas. Edit - just realised I think we know each other, and I suspect you have long since found the answer to this question! Buzzy
