Hiya,

I'm looking for some information on the 2 day Practical tests for the Vetassess application. "Electrician". Would be very greatful for any information on what to expect. I have put my application on hold until I have the confidence that I can pass.

My trade is Electrical Maintenance and I'm hoping to work in the Perth area,

Came back from a 3 week holiday recently and we loved the place.

Appreciate any advice.

As a fellow sparky I wish you luck.

The practical test is just a method of sorting the skilled people from the chancers.

The actual test will be no more than the AM2 which you did as an apprentice (did mine at 19).

Again I wish you luck and I am sure you won't have any trouble passing with flying colours!!!

Hi,

My OH has just found out he passed the 1st Bricklayers Trade Assessment back in December. I know we can't give you anything to go on the Electricians one but don't let it put you off. My husband's was a series of interviews with the assessors where you chat about what you have done in the trade and your experience then some practical assesments he had to build a gable end like the side of a house - window opening decorative brickwork etc. He said it is very pressurised and they are very serious even the most experienced bloke out of them got hot under the collar but they are only checking that you can do what the trade requires. They go through the paper assessment you send in so photocopy it and memorise what you said you could do in it. We are sure you'll be fine, go for it. Good luck.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply's. Suppose I am being over cautious.

The problem I have is that I work as a Maintenance Electrician at an automated site. The Vetassess tests appeared to be geared towards domestic electrical work. I have passed the C&G 2391 Inspection and testing course which was a tough exam to pass and also the regs exam but what I lack is the experienced hands on work that Electricians do day in day out.

I do installion work, like installing db's etc but not vast amounts, My day to day job involves breakdown repairs on cranes and conveyors etc. I also test and inspect all elec works at site.

Currently I am at college completing the C&G 2330, I only part finished the 236 a few years back, should be passed by July 08 so we will re-commence our Vetassess application then.

Again, thanks for all advise posted.

Best Wishes

Steve

Hi

My husband has just passed his practical assessment for electricians. Probably a bit too long winded to go into on here but if you want to send me a private message with any questions you have, I will get Geoff to answer them for you.

Cheers
