dorsetemma 16 Posted May 22, 2012 Hi Everyone We have been over here for 2 years now, living on the Northern beaches, but we are thinking of relocating out to a more affordable area of NSW. We have 2 young children (6 and 4) so need to think about good schools and my husband will still be working in Bondi Junction so need to think about commuting time also. The Southern Highlands and Central Coast have both come up as possibilities and I'd love to hear from anyone who can let us know what these areas are like to live in, how friendly the locals are, how much there is going on (for us and the kids) and if you can still get good coffee outside of Sydney  Many thanks. pintpot 473 Posted May 22, 2012 I would have thought somewhere south along the Illawarra/Wollongong rail line would be the most realistic for a commute to BJ - direct trains or one easy change I shudder to imagine the commute from the Central Coast to there, to be honest. Maybe it's better than I imagine it Loads of families seem to find areas of the Shire good for them and affordable (for Sydney) - certainly much cheaper than the Northern Beaches. And it's an easy journey to Bondi, to boot
dorsetemma 16 Posted May 22, 2012 Thanks Pinpot. Unfortunately I'm looking to give up work so we want really affordable and I don't think that the Shires can offer a nice 3 bed rental for $350 a week like Mittagong can! That's the trouble with anywhere which has an easy commute to Sydney  Many thanks for replying though.
Guest Guest62757 Posted May 22, 2012 (edited) Having moved from the North Shore to the Central Coast and now to Melbourne I would vote for Southern Highlands! A friend did the tree change from Castle Cove to Burradoo and they love it although I think her hubby drives into Sydney for work still. You also have the south coast and the blue mountains.... RVN 10 Posted June 1, 2012 Hi I dont live in the SH but go through there fairly often. Its beautiful up there. Can be quite expensive if you are looking in certain areas..ie Bowral and Berrima. Mittagong, Robertson and Moss Vale are bit cheaper. Both have plenty of cafes and shops to go to. Lovely atmosphere. Easy commute onto the hume highway from Mittagong. Go for a visit. Lots to see and do in the surrounding areas. Have not been to the central coast so cannot compare. Does get pretty cold up there though..My boss lives in Robertson and it has reached -figures already. Good luck :-)
Guest Ptp113 Posted June 1, 2012 SH is like the U.K, we go there a lot. Fair commute to Sydney though.
