Unfortunately we are not there until about Aug/Sept next year, so if your friends business grows (and hope it does) then hopefully by then he will be looking for more people and I may be able to drop him a line! Cheers

Hope this is of interest to someone Richard Hi Richard This is something i'd be very interested in, i have an unrestricted permanent residents visa. Just to give you a quick run down of my skills and qualifications. I'm qualified to corgi standards as a gas fitter. Have welder, fabricator qualifications. Have worked for the last 10 years as a maintanence engineer for a boat hirer, duties including anything from engine overhauls, fitting and fixing of domestic water and electrical systems and much more. I'm very hands on, keen and a committed worker, willing to learn and learn fast. Only down point is i'm still in the uk and wasn't planning on coming over to the Gold coast till October, but if there's a firm job offer i could give a months notice and come in Febuary. Let me know if you want a full CV sent anywhere, or anything else.

Guest carlleah Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 how u doing im a plumber half way through my visa now,how have you found it getting work over there look forward to a reply carl
Guest Dano Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Hi Carl, well where to begin, plumbing over here is quite abit different than back in the UK. For a start they do everything from the ground up i.e groundworkers stuff back home is considered a plumbers job here. That said if you work in newbuild you may just be doing the usual 1st&2nd fix's as usual although the fittings are different also. Get used to doing it the Aussie way or forget it. To start you'll have to go to the plumbers board in brisbane to get a provisional lic, which is all you'll get to start. You have to do a work file ( abit like your level 2 again) over the 1st year to tick the boxes of what you can do, they have 5 basic parts to a licence, check the qld plumbing board website for details. So basically you have to work for a local firm to start. This can be difficult also as alot of firms dont want to know unless your experienced doing it their way, fair enough i suppose but it can be abit frustrating getting your foot in the door so to speak. Be prepared to do lots of re-training over the coming years to get your gas and various other licences back online. Good luck and may the force be with you padwan!
Guest Richard & Christine Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 please let my partner know, floyd@globalequipment.com.au as i am back in the UK regards Richard

Guest Paul W Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Hi there, I am a Plumber, living on the Gold coast. Back in the UK and was corgi registered and did gas central heating for seven years. Since then I've moved over to Oz, I currently have a provisional QLD plumbers license as thats all they'd give me, :realmad: I've been working for a company in Brisbane, but the travel is doing me. In this time 12 months I've done Drainage, underground and suspended, stormwater and rainwater tanks. Rough-ins and fit offs, aswell as a bit of cabinet making and tiling as we'd refurb bathrooms and kitchens. Also done some commercial work, home and abroad. Hot water systems, dual pumps 100mm copper water mains etc. I am interested in any work or consideration on the GC, thanks.
