Best area for bricklayers and families

Hi all

 

We have been looking at going to Canberra, but just wanted to get other peoples opinion of where they think is the best place to go workwise for a bricklayer, i.e. amount of work, wages etc. But we also want to somewhere that is good for families with young children.

Hiya ,we are south east of brisbane and theres lots of work around here for brickies.They are building new land estates everywere.The area we live is pretty family orientated with lots of after school clubs and activites.Where in manchester are you? i was in bury.

We are opposite side, we are in Levenshulme. OH is working in Bury at Moment, all I know is it is near a B and Q near the centre.

Aldo is a brickie on the Sunshine Coast of QLD. He can tell you about bricklaying up there.

 

Billy braveheart is a brickie in Perth, WA, so he can discuss what it is like there.

 

In a post by Aldo a few weeks ago, he said that the buildings in NSW (the houses at any rate - not sure about shopping malls, offices etc) are timber framed. I've no idea what this signifies to a brickie but I got the impression that Aldo doesn't think much of timber-framed construction.

 

I don't know that we necessarily have any brickie Members in the ACT, but Quoll lives in the ACT and can tell you a lot about the State and about Canberra, though not necessarily also about bricklaying there.

 

I've a vague feeling that the distance from Canberra to the sea could be around 500km.

 

I find it really hard to judge distances in Oz from a map. I thought Coffs Harbour was quite close to Brisbane till I told Google Maps to get directions from CH to B. Yerr, well! Depends on your definition of "close." I don't call a 7 hour drive "close" but loads of Ozzies would consider it to be just up the road......

 

I would suggest that maybe your OH should PM Billy and Aldo whilst you PM Quoll in order to learn more about living in the ACT.

Hi, If it's any help, the more temperate climates of Tasmania and Victoria tend to have more brick houses as the weather is well er... temperate, the further North you go you will find more of the Timber construction type. I did visit Perth mind which is bloody hot in the summer and there were plenty of brick houses there too.

Hi, we're from Oldham, moved to Gold Coast in september. Don't know about Canberra sorry; hubby a brickie though, and has had no problem finding work here. They build timber framed houses in this part of QLD, and then put up an outer skin of brick. Loads of houses being built around this area, SE QLD having a building boom.

Great where we are for families, loads of sporting facilities, schools/kindys, parks on every corner nearly. Our kids are 4, 3 and 1 and love it here. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
