Guest TokenPaddy Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 This is one for anyone who has left NZ for Oz via NZ passport. What happens when you need to renew your NZ passport after having spent all the intervening years in Oz? Iv'e been on the Immigration site but can't find any information on this area. We just want to make sure that if we make the jump we won't get turfed out of Oz because we can't renew our NZ passports. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Anne
Guest John Sydney Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Nothing Just apply for a new NZ passport and ask for the old one to be returned to you.As a N Z at present you have an automatic right to enter Australia . I am not a NZer but have changed passports with work permits in the old one its a standard thing
Guest TokenPaddy Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Happy days John, I'm originally form N Ireland and thought if I just get my NZ passport and leave would they tell me to sling my hook when it was time for renewal, now I can relax. Thanks a million. Anne
Guest TokenPaddy Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Hey Ken It's a long story suffice it to say that I personally feel like a square peg in a round hole here. Before we give up altogether and head back to Europe/UK we thought we could give Oz a go for a year but it depends on whether OH can get work, he's a lecturer in Aviation and was thinking that maybe he could get a research post. Also our daughters (who are in N Ireland) may be more open to Oz than NZ. It's a suck it and see situation. Anne
keily Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 HI GUYS MIGHT BE WAY OF HERE BUT WE ORIGINALLY PLANNED TO GO TO NZ AND THEN "HOP" OVER TO OZ AFTER GETTING NZ CITIZENSHIP [WHICH DOES ALLOW YOU TO GO TO OZ] BUT WERE INFORMED THAT YOU CAN ONLY STAY IN OZ UNTIL THE END OF YOUR WORKING LIFE AND THEN WOULD NEED TO RETURN TO NZ/UK ....... IS THIS CORRECT ??? OR WE WERE MISINFORMED !!! MRS KEILY
Guest TokenPaddy Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Hi Mrs Keily Thanks for that information. I'll have a look see if I can find out what that's about. It would be really wick to spend the next 20 years working my butt off to get turfed out 'cause I'm old and crusty!!! Cheers Anne
