Hi there

Is anyone using the train to get to work in Brisbane? We just wondered wht they are like compared to the UK? they seem a lot cheaper, are they clean, horrendously busy, efficient etc?

Are any of you going from Cleveland area into town, and if so, how is the service?

Many thanks in advance,

Susie.

Hi there,

Trains here not quite like Scotrail. More like the tube. Trains running from the city to Cleveland takes about 1hr. No loos, lots of people but generally run to time. Can buy daily tickets here which allow you to ride the train, ferry and buses for fairly cheap. From Manly which is a few stations up from Cleveland it costs about $7.40 for a daily. They do on a few occasions do rail work at the weekends etc and run buses from the stations.

We tend to get the train to the city as apposed to driving as parking in the city is expensive.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

thanks very much Ginny, that's a great help.

How are you enjoying life in Brisbane? I see you are moving to a different area (or have just moved). I can't wait to get out and do a reckie! We arrive in Brisbane on Hogmanay, and we're having a holiday for 10 days before we start with getting Medicare, TFN, drivers licence etc. We've booked into accommodation through PIO for 2 weeks near redcliffe whilst we check out schools and if we like the area.

We thought we were really organised and had done all the research for Coffs Harbour but have got cold feet about getting work there for Ken, an Accountant, so feel unprepared, but I guess it's kind of exciting too! Our daughter should start school at the end of January though, which pressurises us nto finding an area to rent in that we like the look of long term. She's done one term of P1 in Edinburgh so we don't want to muck her around too much.

I'd love to hear more about how you are enjoying life and settling in if you have time.

Cheeers for now,

Susie.
