Guest mandy&Jem Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Hi does anyone know if you can apply for permanent residency whilst on a higher education 573 student visa? My 14 year old son is a member of the Royal Air Force Cadets and is keen to continue in Australia. However, i checked out the Australian RAF cadets and he cannot join unless he is a permanent resident! Any info will be helpful. Im going to check the immi site now, as well, and find out what i can, Thanks -x-

The Director General Australian Air Force Cadets has advised that your son will be most welcome to join any Australian Air Force Cadet Squadron on your arrival in Australia. There is no need for Australian citizenship and this appears to have been a requirement from years gone bye that has never been repealed, however your request has moved mountains. Please advise if you would like a list of suitable cadet Squadrons in the area that you will be settling. I am an ex cadet and currently on staff and I was most interested to see your internet post. Power to the electronic media. The Air Commodore said that when you go to a Squadron, meet with the Commanding Officer and mention the DGs decision. If the CO needs confirmation, the DG is more than willing to provide any assistance. Good luck with your move to Oz. Kind regards, John
