Guest Rbecca Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Okay. I worked for 18 years as a teacher in the same school and then did some supply work before leaving the UK. Now I'm stuck looking for a job and I'm not sure how to go about it. I have looked on the gov'ment websites and Catholic education websites and I can't find anything. I have looked in the Courier Mail at Saturdays jobs too. How do I find a job inside or outside of teaching? Should I go to a job recruitment agency? Do I just keep trawling the internet and hope something pops up? ANY advice would be appreciated. Rebecca
Guest EM&M Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Hi, You didnt mention if you have checked SEEK - Australia's no. 1 jobs, employment, career and recruitment site which is the most used site here. Also there is Job Search - Australian jobs - Job listing - Find a job - CareerOne or Jobs, Careers & Employment in Australia. Find new jobs @ jobsjobsjobs. Good Luck Em x
Guest EM&M Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Rebecca not sure if you are in Queensland, but I found my job in the local Bulletin paper Wed & sat jobs day. Em x
Guest col&dee Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Hi Rebecca, I'm having the same trouble looking for teaching work in the Sunshine Coast. There is a website where you can register your details for casual/supply work - www.tracer.qld.edu.au(you can choose which schools to have on your list and what stage you would prefer to teach. I have also registered on the catholic teacher's website www.catholicjobsonline.net.au As well as this I have left my reume in some local schools. Unfortunately, I have still to have any joy getting teaching work and the school holidays are now beginning!! This info may only help you if you are in/heading to Queensland. If anyone else has any other info it would be greatly appreciated. Denise

Rebecca Hi Rebecca, just noticed your originally from Rochdale, I am from Oldham myself so we were not far from each other. I worked as a teacher in a Rochdale primary school for 5 years but since coming out here (now living on the sunshine coast) 3 months ago I have been looking for teachers aide work or similar as I am happy to relax a little and make the most of our new life. Finding it very difficult however but I am sure something will come up soon even if I have a complete career change. Cant suggest much more than other posters have suggested really although I have found it useful going onto private school websites some of which only list their jobs privately online. Good luck emma
Guest Rbecca Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Thanks all for the help. I'll get onto those websites as soon as poss. I'm in North Lakes area so it looks as if we're all looking for the same jobs in the same area! I registered with QCT and put my details on the catholic jobs website, but the holidays are approaching so not likely to be much coming from there. I appear to be going through my meagre savings at an alarming rate and as there's only me I think an out of teaching job may be the best option. Where abouts are you on the Sunshine Coast Denise and Em? Rebecca
emmabdc Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Hey! Not far away then Dont really know North Lakes very well am I right thinking it is on the North side of brisbane?? Its going to be difficult for us all now I bet looking for jobs in schools due to the holidays, looks like we will have to hold on in there. I have just received my blue card today though so thats a step forward.
Guest Rbecca Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Blue card? I have to have a blue card. I asked someone about that and they said that as I had passed the QCT check I wouldn't need one! Oh blimey! How do I go about getting one of those then? Rebecca

Oh blimey! How do I go about getting one of those then?Rebecca No you should be fine as you are going for teaching jobs and will be covered by the QCT, I have decided not to teach over here and am therefore going for teachers aide jobs thats why I need a blue card, dont worry it is completely different. I had had enough of the stress of teaching at home and practically giving my whole weekend up to plan and prepare lessons. Just out of interest which school did you work at back in England seen as we are from the same area? Emma

You're right about the holidays not helping with finding any work. You should probably try to get a job outside of teaching to do you through until the schools bo back - good luck!! Denise
Guest col&dee Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 I had had enough of the stress of teaching at home and practically giving my whole weekend up to plan and prepare lessons. Emma Hi Emma, I totally agree with you on this one and I've been thinking along the same lines as you. Hope you get something soon. Denise ps I'm in Kawana Island only about 10 miuntes from Buderim

Guest Rbecca Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Hi Emma, I was at St Gabriel's RC in Castleton. Where were you? I know it's a cliche`, but it's a small world! I could really do with a job to keep me going, but I'm not sure what to do, how to do it, how to get it or where to find it. Why doesn't someone hear about how brilliant I am and offer me a job over the phone? Rebecca

Know how you feel going insane at the moment, what kind of jobs are you looking at outside of teaching or are you just going to stick in that area??
Jo&Rich Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Hi, from Oldham too, and have applied to start a course at Griffth University for a postgraduate teaching certificate, primary. They don't seem to understand how English degrees are graded though (at least the woman grading my application ) so not holding my breath! Good luck in finding a position; a few people on here are registered with agencies doing supply work, getting their foot in the door, but as schools all closed now, don't know how you'll get on for a while. May as well work on your tan! Jo x
Guest Rbecca Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Good God Emma!!!I lived in Wardle. In fact, my house is still up for sale in Wardle on Dovedale Dr. The world's getting smaller! No, I'm not going to be able to limit myself to teaching I can't see myself getting a post during the long holidays. As to what I can do otherwise, I'd look at anythink that sounded interesting, but I seem to get bogged down in job adverts for things I can't do, rather than things I can! Rebecca
