Guest Mrs C Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Hi There, We have been looking into the same area's as you... so if you don't mind, will keep an eye on this thread. A friend of ours has family in Redcliffe and visited last year. He say's it is lovely! We are looking at going August 2008. Our son Bradly is 12 also. Thanks for starting this one April.
Guest kdal Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Hi, Have been Redcliffe as my cousin lives there. My cousin has a Queenslander house. Only spent the day there but really enjoyed the feel of the community there. We spent most of the day at the Lagoon which is lovely and the beach is right next to it. We finished the day of in the evening by getting Fish n Chips and they were really lovely then with them drove thru the drive thru Off Licence (liquer place) to get the beer and canned Jack Daniels and then onto the park and sat there and ate our Fish n Chips with a lovely view of the glass house mountains, even though it was dark by then you could still see them. Redcliffe seemed quite old not sure if there is any new build going on around there or not, but as say only spent the day there but it had a lovely feel to the place. Regards
Guest theweekshousehold Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Hi When we were looking to move to Aus we looked at Caboolture and was warned off, told you have to have 2 heads to live there. We where also warned about Redcliffe. We went there the other day and seemed nice but very quiet I think people who ive are not so well off or retired been speaking to lots of people and things are on the move people are prepared to commute so lots of people from Brisbane are moving there for more affordable housing....... just like the Uk people don't mind traveling from these area's to Brisbane etc and would prefer a bigger house, Apparently North Lakes has had a mega hike in houses in the last 18 months and Caboolture and Redcliffe seem to be next on the list. We have come to the sunshine coast and the houses are more expensive than we thought but now we have come here I this is the best place....... Good Luck its really hard to get a picture of things
calNgary Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Redcliffe is lovely but as mr/mrs weeks says it has a large population of retirees,i thought of it more as holiday retreat/weekend break sort of place.I would definately have a look around there before comitting to anything, good luck choosing an area is the hardest bit of moving here i think Cal x
Guest Nick'n'Trish Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Hi PhilnJo, we're expats and have recently moved from South Australia to Redcliffe, well Margate actually....its next door. We decided to rent here because firstly its by the beach! Secondly its central to everything, Gold Coast is about 70 min drive, Sunshine Coast is about an hour, the airport is about 30 mins away (all give or take depending on traffic). There is a fantastic lagoon which they have built on the Redcliffe esplanade which caters for babies through to adults. It has barbie areas and picnic type areas (and on duty life guards!) which make for a great family day out. The area IS old, but many new places being built. We live in a new big 4 bedroom apartment (top of three levels) and are 50 metres to the beach. There are cafes, shops and supermarkets all within walking distance of redcliffe and margate. There are a few nice pubs locally which make for a good night out.....oh and not forgetting the Dolphins Club (NRL footy club) which is huge and a great night out for families, couples or singles. We were told to steer clear of south Brissie but like everywhere, it has its good areas and bad (we read things about our area but have never seen or heard any problems). We are looking at buying a house and are looking towards Narangba which has a good reputation, gorgeous area, central to everywhere (especially North Lakes and its big shopping malls!!) and has a local train/buses which go to Brisbane or Caboolture area. We didn't know any of the areas or their reputations, we knew no one to get advise from so at the end of the day, we decided to chose an area which met our initial needs - had easy access to shops, my job (I work in the local hospital) and by the beach. We're fussy so we had to have a nice place at an affordable price. Its given us time to look around before we buy - there are SO many gorgeous places here! North and South....(we're even considering Hervey Bay!! Gorgeous place, near the Great Barrier Reef, value for money houses etc). Enough of my waffling, All the very best!! Cheers, Trish
Guest fairbloodydinkum Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Redcliffe?...amazing place...it was 10 years ago...still is if you have the $$$ but getting a bit crowded and upmarket now... if you have the finance to buy or rent..and you can find something..go for it... but if your finances are limited...then look a little more inland where land prices are lower and housing is a financial possibility.. a house near any coast or built up area can be from au$350.000 up to millions inland can be from au$160.000 up to millions basic rental can be from $250..to 500 a week for a 2-3 bedroom house. at present petrol is around $1.30 a litre.. my pick is the sunshine coast...redcliffe..bribie island..caboolture(yay)..out to woodford to kingaroy.. as these places are now starting to expand, as everyone wants to get away from the rat race...but not too far..
Guest The Woodcutter Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Redcliffe peninsula comprises of 6 suburbs: Clontarf, Woody Point, Margate, Kippa Ring, Scarborough and Redcliffe: collectively referred to as Redcliffe. It is very much an up and coming area, and although it is true that there are quite a few retirees they do not dominate the community. There are plenty of young families here. Our children aged 9 and 5 have plenty of friends their own age. What I like about Redcliffe is: 1) proximity to Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast 2) quiet family feel 3) good shopping at Kippa Ring 4) decent schools 5) great neighbours 6) lots to do as a family 7) etc Personally I love it here. House prices vary from $350,000 to over $2m depending on location. Real bargains can be had in Clontarf. There is a new build at Newport Quays by Kippa Ring.
ali Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Don't usually comment on the QLD posts but noticed this thread. My brother moved from Brighton (near Sandgate) to Redcliffe, they have 2 children twins 16 months and a son 2 1/2 . They love it there and think it's a great place to bring up their young family. We visited for the day when they were living in Brighton, unfortunatley the lagoon had been drained that day but we had a great time on the beach. Ali
bruce 7 Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 We are renting a town house in Kippa-ring and have found the whole area around Redcliffe to be good. There seems to be a mixture of old people and familys inthe area.House prices look to be not too bad but there are a lot of expensive new builds on the waterfront. The beach and outdoor pool are really good and my kids (6+10) really have setteled in well.
Guest Huff Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Hi What is the internet broadband situation there ? And how far is it to the airport by car? Talking of cars are there any websites where I can pick up a cheap car online ? Thank you .
sharon h Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Hi I have a job at Mater hospital Southbank, how long would it take to get there from Redcliffe, also what are the state high and primary schools like in Redcliffe. Thanks for any advice. Sharon
Roxaroo Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Hi all This is my first post on here and like everyone i need a little help and advice. We are due to move out in approx 8 wks and are really stuck on moving to Newport canals. Does anyone know if they have or when they are next releasing plots on the canals? I have searched and cant find anything since the parkland release at Lionhert Cres. Thanks in advance We have 3 children boy 12 and two girs 6 and nearly 3 so it would be great to here from familys in the area.
Guest lee n sar Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Alright Drove by there the other day and they are advertising a new batch at the top end of newport. There are also a few plots left in between existing houses. Just dont swim down the canals, unless ur handy at knocking out sharks!
Roxaroo Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Thanks for you reply I hope you are kidding about sharks!! My son is running around the house screaming!!!
Guest lee n sar Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 I wont lie there are sharks but it never stops me ringo/ski/wake. Just avoid dawn and dusk, you will soon get used to it!
