Phoenix Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Anyone got any experience with getting a visa for an 18yo on a skilled independent visa? My stepson turned 18 in August and is now taking a year out from his studies doing some part time work to save money for university next year. Has anyone else been in a similar situation, was there any problems or issues we need to be aware of Thanks
Guest billy braveheart Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Hi Phoenix Was your stepson put on the application for the visa before he turned 18?? If not maybe a student visa for him?? I really dont have a clue as my son is 17 so was automatically put on ours but different kind of visa. I'm sure someone will have some advice for you. Janette
Guest pabloke99 Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 He'll be able to travel on your visa as long as you can show proof that he'll be in full time education in Australia when you move. So I recommend that he enrols onto a TAFE or Uni course now, in order to get the required proof. Once in Oz he can then decide whether or not to actually attend the course. Paul

Has anyone else been in a similar situation, was there any problems or issues we need to be aware of Thanks HI PHOENIX .. OUR DAUGHTER WAS 18 IN APRIL [PAST] WE HAD TO ENROL HER IN COLLEGE OVER HERE SO THAT SHE WAS IN FULL TIME EDUCATION AND COULD THEREFORE BE CLASSED AS A DEPENDANT. AS PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED IT MAY BE AN IDEA TO LOOK INTO GETTING HIM ENROLED IN OZ. THERE WAS A POST ON HERE A FEW WEEKS AGO [CANT RE WHO BY] BUT IN ORDER FOR THEM TO GET 22YR OLD INCLUDED THEY GOT LOTS OF INFO RE HOUSE RENTAL PRICES IN SURROUNDING AREAS SO THEY COULD PROVE THEIR DAUGHTER COULD NOT AFFORD TO LIVE AWAY FROM HOME AND SO WOULD BE HOMELESS IF SHE WAS NOT INCLUDED ON THEIR VISA .THE WORST THING HE COULD DO RIGHT NOW IS GET FULL TIME EMPLOYMENT AS THEY MAY CONSIDER HIM TO HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO LOOK OUT FOR HIMSELF . HOPE THIS IS OF SOME HELP MRS KEILY
Guest KP Nuts Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Hi Phoenix, Keily is right about the full time employment bit, kids on the visa must be fully dependant on you for support. Mr KP Nut.
