Guest afiyafifi Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Hi all . need some advice , A girl at my work wants to move to oz with her boyfriend he is training to be a policeman, but she dosent think she will be able to go on his visa as there not married . I told her i would ask all my friends on here as someone would know , thanks in advance karen
Guest Gollywobbler Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Hi Karen They do not have to be legally married, but they do have to be living together as if they were legally married. To prove that itis a genuine, committed and on-going relationship, DIAC would want the same information as they require for Souse or de facto Partner visas, Gizmo and Koala 12 can advise on the sort ofinformationthey were required to produce, so try a PM to both of them, maybe? However, which visa does the trainee policeman think he might be eligible for? If they have not got as far as working that out, I would suggest that he has initial (free) chats with Go Matilda in Southampton and also with Ian Harrop & Associates in Burford, near Oxford. Cheers Gill
Guest afiyafifi Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Thanks Gill , i dont know what visa he is going but will find out when next in work. thanks again karen
Guest scholes.mark Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Try this forum; ttp://www.police-forum.com/ WA and SA police accept police officers with 3+ years experience - then train them to Australian standards - they migrate on a labour agreement (PR). Just like Meeeeeeeeeeee fly out to Perth 1st Jan. regards Mark

Guest scholes.mark Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Hi Mark Did they give you a permanent Labour Agreement visa straightaway or are youon th temp one to start with? Cheers Gill Hi I got Permanent residency straight away, with a Labour agreement with the Western Australian police - if you go via SA I think you may be on a temp then to PR. all in all it has taken me approx. 1 year to get that magic stamp in my passport apply To WA police - wait 3 months provide police medical, proof of qualifications and fitness test - wait 3 months testing in London - wait 2 months wait for DIAC to issue ICSE number wait 2 months, and then send off visa application + medicals etc - wait 2 months get Visa with magic PR stamp I could have been in Australia 2 months earlier, but I had problems with children going and children stopping in the UK :policeman: It is not an easy route and the WA police do demand a lot from you in regard to skills, psychometric testing, fitness test etc. regards Mark
Guest Gollywobbler Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Hi Mark Thanks so much for your very useful reply. Hmm. Karen says that her friend's Man is a trainee policeman. How long does police training take inthe UK, I wonder? I wonder, too, whether it would count as "experience" for the purposes of the Australian police forces? Instinct is suggesting to me that this couple may not yet have a visa strategy for The Man. I'm just thinking that unless a temp Labour Agreement could be used in order to give him the necessary 3 years' experience with the Ozzie Police rather than the British Police, it is going to be difficult to find him a visa. I do know that it is possible to get a Labour Agreement without one's skills being on any of the lists - "trainee policeman" is not on any of the lists! Many thanks for any further help/comment you may be able to offer. Thanks again Gill
Guest scholes.mark Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Gill You must have at least 3 years experience and be out of your 2 year probation (UK training period). You are Right there is no trainee police officer on any list to my knowledge. WA and SA only want skilled fully trained front-line officers, and require you to prove it (ideally with 5 years experience). You start as a police officer but have to complete a training course in Law and procedure for the relevant force you join + that whole gun thing (13 weeks or so for WA). hope this helps Regards Mark
Guest Gollywobbler Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Thanks Gill , i dont know what visa he is going but will find out when next in work. thanks again karen Hi Karen I revisited tis thread just now because somebody else is asking about the possibility of going to Oz and starting police training from scratch whe he gets there. The new thread is here: http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=167900 From what Mark has told us on your thread, the idea of going to Oz and being accepted on to a police training course ithere is by no means a certainty - indeed it may not be possible at all - so I will post a link to this thread on the new one. Reverting to the couple you are trying to help, though....The Man is not an Australian by any happy chance, is he? Just a thought. Cheers Gill

Guest TheArmChairDetective Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 You must have at least 3 years experience and be out of your 2 year probation (UK training period). Mark You also have to be serving currently, being retired does not qualify you.
